Work Schedule:
Monday-Thursday 12:30 pm - 5:30 pm; occasional evening hours for special events may be required; up to 20 hours per week
SALARY:
$21.63 per hour; non-benefited At this time, the College is not providing sponsorships for Visas.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
The Office of Student Engagement (OSE) Recreation Assistant supports the daily operations of North Shore Community College's recreation program, with a primary focus on implementing recreational activities including but not limited to recreational sports, health and fitness programs that foster belonging student engagement, wellness, and community. Based primarily on the Lynn Campus, this position staffs the campus gymnasium, promotes safe and inclusive recreational opportunities, and implements recreational sports, tournaments, fitness challenges, and wellness activities for students on both the Lynn and Danvers campuses, as well as through virtual programming. The OSE Recreation Assistant plays an important role in implementing opportunities for students to connect, stay active, and build belonging outside the classroom.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Open, supervise, and close the Lynn Campus gymnasium during assigned hours. Implement recreational sport activities, drop-in recreation, fitness activities, and special events. Promote student participation in recreation and wellness programming across the Lynn and Danvers campuses. Maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment and enforce facility and equipment-use policies. Maintain recreation equipment and supplies and report safety, maintenance, or equipment concerns. Track participation and collect student feedback to support program assessment. Assist with outreach and promotion through college communication platforms and social media. Collaborate with Student Engagement staff and campus partners and participate in required meetings and trainings. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Associate's degree or certificate in Exercise Science, or two years of relevant experience in recreation, fitness, wellness, student activities, or a related field required. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered. Strong interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills. Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team. Enthusiasm for promoting recreation, wellness and healthy lifestyles. Comfortable using technology, including Microsoft Office and online communication platforms. Working knowledge of fitness equipment and safe recreational practices. Ability to lift and move recreation equipment weighing up to 30 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, and actively supervise recreational activities for extended periods. Ability to demonstrate the safe use of recreation and fitness equipment. Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.
