Job Description

Part-Time Daycare Kitchen Manager/Cook Schedule:
Monday-Friday, 6:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Job Type:
Part-time We are seeking a dependable and organized Daycare Cook to prepare nutritious meals for children in a licensed childcare center. The cook will prepare breakfast, lunch, and one snack daily while maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen. Responsibilities Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and snacks according to approved childcare meal patterns. Follow weekly menus, recipes, portion sizes, and meal schedules. Make nutritionally equal substitutions when necessary and document all menu changes. Follow children's allergy, medical, religious, and special-diet instructions. Prepare age-appropriate foods and reduce choking risks. Maintain safe temperatures for hot and cold foods. Clean and sanitize dishes, utensils, equipment, counters, and kitchen areas. Properly label, date, store, refrigerate, and discard food. Maintain food-temperature, menu, meal-count, and sanitation records. Monitor food inventory and notify management when supplies are needed. Work cooperatively with teachers, administrators, and other staff. Required Qualifications Current Illinois Food Service Sanitation Manager or Certified Food Protection Manager certification . Previous experience preparing meals for children in a daycare or childcare setting. Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, portion control, allergies, and age-appropriate meal preparation. Ability to follow Illinois childcare nutrition standards and center policies. Must complete all required background checks and provide required employment health documentation. Dependable, punctual, organized, and able to work independently. Must be able to stand for extended periods and safely lift food supplies and kitchen equipment. Illinois Childcare Licensing Expectations The selected candidate must follow applicable Illinois childcare licensing requirements, including: Preparing food in an inspected and approved kitchen. Maintaining a clean and sanitary food-preparation area. Keeping food service under the management of a certified food-service manager. Planning menus at least one week in advance and documenting substitutions. Following required childcare meal patterns and age-appropriate portions. Safely managing food allergies and special diets. Maintaining safe food temperatures and storage procedures. Washing and sanitizing cooking and feeding utensils after each use. Refraining from handling food while experiencing fever, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat, or other symptoms that may affect food safety.
