Job Description

Job Summary
ABOUT THE CRONIN
The Cronin is a brand-new dining and bar concept coming to the heart of historic downtown Marshall, where the character of the late 1800s meets the sophistication and rebellious spirit of the Prohibition era. Featuring an approachable casual fine-dining restaurant alongside The 101 Club our elevated, Prohibition-inspired lounge our concept centers around Meat. Beer. Whiskey. and genuine, memorable hospitality. We are building something that honors the history of our building while bringing a fresh and sophisticated experience to downtown Marshall. We want guests to return not only because of what is on their plate or in their glass, but because of how they feel when they are here.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for a Bar Manager who wants more than simply running a bar we want someone excited to help build one . As part of our opening leadership team, the Bar Manager will have the unique opportunity to help establish the culture, standards, systems, and personality of our beverage program from the beginning. This is a hands-on management position . Our Bar Manager will regularly work behind the bar alongside the team while also taking ownership of training, beverage quality, inventory, organization, cost controls, and daily bar operations. The ideal candidate understands that exceptional bar service is about more than making a great drink. It is about creating an experience. Responsibilities Help develop and maintain an intentional beverage program featuring craft cocktails, whiskey, beer, wine, and premium spirits. Establish and uphold consistent cocktail recipes, pours, presentation, garnishes, glassware, and beverage standards. Work scheduled bartending shifts while providing visible, hands-on leadership. Recruit, train, develop, coach, and retain a knowledgeable and professional bar team. Educate bartenders on spirits, whiskey, beer, wine, cocktail techniques, responsible alcohol service, and the stories behind our beverage offerings. Create an atmosphere where bartenders can confidently make recommendations and educate guests without being intimidating or pretentious. Maintain excellent guest service and professionally resolve guest concerns. Manage liquor, beer, wine, mixers, garnishes, and bar supply inventory. Assist with ordering, receiving, invoice verification, product organization, and inventory controls. Monitor beverage costs, waste, over-pouring, comps, spills, and product loss. Help establish pars and ordering systems appropriate for business volume. Maintain a clean, organized, properly stocked, and inspection-ready bar. Ensure compliance with Michigan liquor laws, responsible alcohol service requirements, food safety standards, and company policies. Work closely with the Service Manager, ownership, culinary leadership, and other members of management to create a consistent guest experience throughout the restaurant. Participate in manager responsibilities including opening and closing procedures, guest recovery, staff coaching, shift leadership, and other operational needs. Help create seasonal cocktails, features, tastings, special events, and beverage experiences that keep the program fresh and engaging. Knowledgeable. You understand spirits and cocktails and genuinely enjoy continuing to learn. Creative. You appreciate classic cocktails and history but are not afraid to bring new ideas to the table. Consistent. The same cocktail should look and taste exceptional whether it is served Tuesday afternoon or Saturday night. Organized. You understand that a successful bar depends just as much on inventory, cleanliness, prep, pars, and systems as it does on great bartending. Approachable. We want knowledgeable hospitality not beverage snobbery. Guests should feel comfortable asking questions and trying something new. A Leader. You are willing to coach, teach, hold people accountable, recognize great performance, and work beside your team when things get busy. Guest Focused. You understand that the drink is only one part of the experience. Qualifications Previous bartending experience is required, with leadership, supervisory, or bar management experience strongly preferred. Candidates should have a working knowledge of spirits, classic and modern cocktails, beer and wine; strong communication and organizational skills; and the ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and other peak restaurant periods. Experience with inventory management, beverage costing, ordering, POS systems, scheduling, and opening a new restaurant or bar is highly valued. Current or obtainable responsible alcohol service and food-safety certifications are expected.
OUR BAR PHILOSOPHY
At The Cronin, we believe a great bar should have personality . We want our bartenders to know why a cocktail works not simply how to make it. We want them to understand the whiskey they are pouring, know the local beer they are recommending, recognize a guest who wants to explore something new, and take care of the person who simply wants their favorite drink made exceptionally well. The 101 Club gives us an opportunity to celebrate the social culture and history surrounding the Prohibition era without becoming a themed attraction. The history should influence the experience—not overwhelm it. Our goal is to create a beverage program that is polished, memorable, approachable, consistent, and distinctly ours .
WHAT MAKES THIS POSITION DIFFERENT
You aren't stepping into someone else's established bar program. You will help us build it. From opening standards and bartender education to cocktail development, inventory systems, bar organization, and service culture, the person selected for this position will have an opportunity to leave their fingerprints on what The Cronin and The 101 Club become. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their craft, cares about their team, respects the history behind our concept, and is excited about creating something special for downtown Marshall.
