Introduction The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA), has an opening for a Food Service Manager to serve as part of the Dietary Services team at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in Union Grove (WVHUG). The WVHUG campus is located off Highway 11 in-between Burlington and Racine and is a short drive from Milwaukee, Kenosha, and other key locations throughout Southeastern Wisconsin. The facility is surrounded by rolling hills and peaceful natural landscapes. The Veterans Home provides professional skilled nursing care including long-term care and protective memory care. Position Summary This position is responsible for supervision of the food service program at the Veterans Home in Union Grove. Program areas include food preparation activities, food delivery services, and related operations. The incumbent is directly involved in work unit functions, provides a "hands-on" leadership approach, and supervises the work of Cooks and Food Service Assistants. The position ensures efficient, cost-effective and high-quality meal services with accurate and timely responses which meet the nutritional needs of WVHUG members. For a full copy of the position description, click here. Salary Information The starting salary for this position is between $31.50 - $33.50 an hour ($65,520 - $69,680 annually). Compensation for current and eligible former State employees may vary and will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan. Job Details This position will work Tuesday through Saturday. Standard hours are between 10:30am and 7:00pm with flexible scheduling based on available staff coverage and closing shift needs. Due to the nature of the position, WDVA will conduct a background check prior to an offer of employment. Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test. A 12-month probationary period will be required. The selected candidate must either hold a current ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification or obtain one within 6 months after starting. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship) at the time of appointment. The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs does not sponsor work or student visas and is not an eligible OPT employer for those with F1 visas. WDVA participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with Form I-9 information for all new employees to confirm authorization to work in the U.S. Qualifications In their application materials, minimally-qualified applicants will provide details about their experience: Performing food service duties (i.e., serving food, following proper food handling safety and sanitation practices, etc.); and Acting as a lead-worker (e.g., coordinating work activities, assigning work, providing training, implementing policies and procedures, etc.). Well-qualified applicants will also provide details about their experience: Working in a healthcare environment; or Performing formal supervisory duties (e.g., hiring staff, scheduling, evaluating work, disciplinary actions, etc.).
