CLASS TITLE:
CHILD NUTRITION MANAGER BASIC FUNCTION

Manage and coordinate the day-to-day food service operations of an assigned school site; assure compliance with District, State and Federal requirements and laws regarding nutrition, sanitation, safety and record-keeping; assign, schedule, supervise, direct and evaluate assigned food service personnel. Jessamine Co. Schools Food Service operates Federal Child Nutrition programs including:

National School Lunch Program (NSLP)

School Breakfast Program (SPB)

Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)

Summer Food Service Program (SFSP)

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
  • Manage, coordinate and oversee the day-to-day food service operations of Federal Child Nutrition Programs.
  • Analyze effectiveness, assure compliance with District, State and Federal laws, regulations and safety and sanitation procedures. Follow assigned menus, assuring compliance with regulations and requirements, Oversee food service employees; train, direct, assign, schedule and evaluate staff.
  • Inspect kitchen and food storage areas daily to assure compliance with health, safety and sanitation requirements and regulations. Operate point of service system to ensure accurate meal counting and claiming.
  • Plan work schedules and coordinate daily work for efficient use of labor; communicate staff vacancies to Food Service Office Staff.

Train and assist employees in the proper handling of foods, correct use and care of equipment and in maintaining high standards of sanitation and safety. Complete Production Records, providing staff Planned Portions needed for daily food preparation. Train and monitor staff to reference and complete Prepared Portions and Leftover/Waste, then complete Served Portions as required. Train and monitor staff to complete Food Usage Sheets.

Order sufficient but not excessive amounts of food and supplies needed. Monitor and control use of purchased items.

Complete monthly inventory of Food and Supplies.

Complete HACCP logs as required.

Review and approve Daily Time Sheets to be completed and signed by staff.

Retain required documents for 3 years plus the current year; properly disposing of aged confidential material.

Participate in and attend monthly Manager Meetings, in-service meetings, related retreats and conferences.

Communicate with students, staff, faculty to form effective professional relationships.

Perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE OF:

Meal production planning and scheduling. Applicable District, federal and State laws, rules and regulations related to food service. Quantity food preparation and food merchandising. HACCP and Sanitation regulations Use and care of institutional equipment and utensils. Procedures used in ordering, receiving, storing and inventorying food and supplies. Health and safety rules and regulations pertaining to food establishments.

Record-keeping techniques. Principles and practices of supervision and training. Oral and written communications skills. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy. Effective inventory methods and practices.

ABILITY TO

Manage and coordinate the day-to-day food service operation at an assigned school site. Assure compliance with District, State and federal requirements. Train others in the preparation and serving of food in large quantities. Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Schedule, supervise and evaluate staff. Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action. Meet schedules and timelines. Operate a computer as required. Plan and organize work. Maintain and effectively organize and store records. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Work independently with little direction.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma, G.E.D. Certificate and three years experience in food service operations.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Must complete Kentucky ONE Training Course per 702 KAR 6:045 and complete Food Handler certification recognized by JCHD within 30 days of hire.

All days students are in session as approved on JCS calendar and posted on DIstrict Website (in the event of NTI days, these contract days will be worked during SFSP prior to June 30)
