Role Summary The Front of House Team Member creates memorable experiences for every guest in our garden-to-table café, where flexibility and teamwork define the rhythm of service. This role blends genuine hospitality with adaptability, as team members shift seamlessly between taking orders, running food and drinks, brewing coffee, and supporting wherever needed. From greeting guests with warmth to delivering their meal with care, this person ensures every visit feels personal, welcoming, and reflective of our commitment to quality and community. Role Responsibilities Customer Experience & Service Greets guests with warmth and attentiveness, setting the tone for a welcoming café experience from the moment they arrive Takes customer orders at the counter with a friendly demeanor, answering menu questions and offering recommendations with confidence and knowledge Operates the register with accuracy, processing orders, payments, and transactions efficiently while maintaining a friendly, conversational tone Ensures orders are entered correctly into the system, including any modifications, dietary needs, or special requests Assists guests with menu choices, sharing details about ingredients, preparation methods, and seasonal offerings to inspire confident decisions Delivers food and beverages to guests promptly and with care, ensuring orders are accurate and presentation reflects our commitment to quality Checks in with guests throughout their visit, refilling drinks, clearing tables, and ensuring needs are met with genuine hospitality Answers phone calls as needed, providing information about the café, taking to-go orders, and connecting callers to appropriate team members Beverage & Minor Food Prep Prepares coffee and espresso drinks as a barista, maintaining consistency and quality in every cup Mixes and serves alcoholic beverages as a bartender, following recipes and ensuring responsible service Brews teas, cuts garnishes, prepares simple accompaniments, and handles minor prep tasks to support smooth service flow Maintains cleanliness and organization of beverage stations, ensuring tools and ingredients are ready for efficient service Teamwork & Communication Collaborates fluidly with café and kitchen team members to maintain pace, support one another, and uphold shared standards Communicates openly about prep needs, inventory concerns, and service updates to ensure seamless operations Contributes to a positive, respectful kitchen culture where learning, growth, and mutual support are prioritized Takes initiative during both quiet moments and busy rushes, adapting to the needs of the team and the flow of service Cleanliness & Café Standards Maintains clean, welcoming dining and service areas throughout shifts, clearing tables, wiping surfaces, and resetting spaces promptly Supports dishwashing operations as needed to keep service moving smoothly Upholds all food safety and café policies, ensuring a healthy, compliant, and professional environment Ensures beverage stations, counters, and guest areas reflect our commitment to hospitality and attention to detail Role Qualifications Heart for service and genuine desire to create memorable experiences for guests Prior restaurant, café, or customer service experience helpful but not required—we value enthusiasm and a strong work ethic Comfortable learning multiple roles: server, cashier, barista, bartender, and runner—flexibility is key Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining composure, warmth, and attention to detail Strong communication skills and a team-oriented mindset where helping others is second nature Comfortable standing for the duration of shifts and able to carry trays, bus tables, and move with purpose throughout service Must be able to obtain food handler certification (and alcohol service certification if serving beverages) Availability to work a flexible schedule including mornings, afternoons, weekends, and peak seasons What Makes This Role Different No assigned tables or tip competition—everyone works as a true team, and you're never stuck in the weeds alone (plus a premium tipped wage—$5 per hour plus tips—averaging over $18/hour) You'll learn every role: barista, bartender, server, runner—versatility keeps shifts interesting and builds real skills Work in a café that's part of a garden center, so your "office view" includes greenhouses, plants, and people who genuinely love being here Most shifts end by 6pm, and the seasonal menu keeps things fresh (literally) Schedule & Commitment Schedules change weekly and seasonally based on café needs Shifts range from 5-hour mid-day services to full open-to-close shifts Part-time and full-time opportunities available depending on season and business demand
