Job Description

Claims Administrator - Lake Barrington, IL $50,000-$55,000 annually (based on experience) Benefits include health, dental, vision, FSA/HSA, 401(k) match, life insurance, paid time off, bonus incentives, and on-site gym. Make a Real Difference When It Matters Most As a Claims or Benefits Administrator, you are a trusted point of contact for Union Members — guiding them through the disability claims process and/or helping them understand and access the benefits they've earned. You provide clear, empathetic communication and dependable follow-through, ensuring Members feel informed, supported, and financially secure during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. We're looking for dependable, detail-oriented team players who take pride in showing up, communicating clearly, and following through. This is a critical role for someone who values meaningful, people-centered work, accuracy, and being part of a team that truly makes a difference. At Union One, our work directly impacts Union Members when illness or injury disrupts their ability to work and earn an income. General Overview Act as a primary point of contact for Union Members via phone and email, guiding them step-by-step through the claims process and benefit enrollment, coverage, and billing questions Communicate professionally and empathetically, providing clear explanations, reassurance, and timely updates Review policies and verify eligibility according to plan guidelines; provide clear, accurate explanations of plan details and benefit options Coordinate with healthcare providers to obtain medical records and required documentation Prepare and submit complete, accurate claims to insurance carriers so benefits are not delayed Proactively follow up with insurance partners to resolve issues and move claims forward Process and maintain accurate data and policy updates across multiple administrative systems Develop and maintain strong working knowledge of policy booklets, plan details, and benefit procedures Monitor and manage inbound and outbound communications, including email, fax, and mail Support reporting needs and conduct regular enrollment and billing audits to ensure accuracy and compliance Organize and maintain a high-volume caseload with accuracy, efficiency, and strong attention to detail What Success Looks Like in This Role You are reliable, punctual, and consistent — your team and Members can count on you You take ownership of your work and follow through on commitments You communicate clearly, professionally, and confidently You stay organized and focused, even while managing multiple priorities and a high volume of inquiries You understand that your attention to detail and consistency directly affect a Member's trust, financial security, and ability to focus on recovery You value teamwork and recognize how your role impacts others What We're Looking For Obtain an Illinois Life & Health Insurance License (employer-paid) within the first 30 days of employment Typing speed of 50+ WPM Experience in insurance, customer service, call center, or administrative support (healthcare, dental, mortgage, or benefits administration experience a plus) Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills Empathy, professionalism, and emotional intelligence Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure, including high call volume Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required Bachelor's degree preferred (High School diploma or equivalent accepted) Valid Illinois driver's license Benefits 401(k) matching Dental insurance Flexible spending account Health insurance Health savings account Life insurance On-site gym Paid time off Vision insurance License/Certification Illinois Driver's License (Required) Ability to Commute Lake Barrington, IL 60010 (Required) Work Location In person
