Job Description

Position Overview The Director of Human Resources is a strategic, people-focused leader responsible for overseeing HR operations, employee relations, compliance, and employment risk while helping shape and strengthen the company's culture. This role requires an experienced HR professional who can independently lead the HR function, exercise sound judgment, and provide guidance to leadership while remaining actively involved in day-to-day HR operations. The ideal candidate is resourceful, comfortable working independently, and capable of identifying organizational needs, developing solutions, and driving improvements with minimal direction. Experience in an FDA-regulated environment is strongly preferred. The Director should understand the HR considerations associated with supporting employees who work within a regulated Quality Management System (QMS), while maintaining the distinction that HR operates independently of the QMS structure. To thrive/succeed as the Director of Human Resources you should have: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field. 12+ years of progressive HR experience , including significant leadership experience. Demonstrated experience developing and executing HR strategy. Strong experience with employee relations, investigations, terminations, employment litigation, workers' compensation, leaves, payroll, benefits, and compliance. Experience partnering directly with executive leadership and outside legal counsel. Experience in an FDA-regulated, medical device, diagnostics, pharmaceutical, biotech, or similarly regulated environment strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of California and Ohio employment requirements. Experience managing HR teams, systems, and external vendors. Your responsibilities as the Director of Human Resources will include: Strategic HR Leadership Develop and execute HR strategy aligned with Company objectives and growth. Partner with Executive Leadership on organizational structure, workforce planning, succession planning, compensation, and organizational development. Lead HR initiatives related to organizational change, restructuring, retention, and employee development. Provide leadership with HR metrics, analysis, and recommendations. Employee Relations & Risk Management Advise leadership on employee relations, performance management, investigations, disciplinary actions, and terminations. Manage complex employee matters and partner with outside counsel on employment claims, lawsuits, and other legal matters. Oversee workers' compensation, leaves of absence, accommodations, and return-to-work processes. Ensure employment practices are appropriately documented, consistently applied, and compliant with applicable law. HR Operations Oversee payroll, benefits administration, HR systems, employee records, and HR vendors. Oversee recruiting, onboarding, offboarding, compensation, and workforce planning. Develop and maintain HR policies, processes, and programs. Ensure compliance with applicable federal and California employment requirements. Regulated Environment & QMS Support Provide HR leadership within an FDA-regulated organization. Ensure HR processes appropriately support employees working within QMS-controlled activities. Partner with Quality and functional leaders regarding personnel qualifications, competency, training, and related employee requirements. Support regulatory and quality audits involving HR-controlled records and documentation. Maintain clear separation between HR responsibilities and QMS ownership. Leadership Lead and develop the HR team. Coach managers and leaders on effective people-management practices. Build a proactive, consistent, and scalable HR function.
