The Assistant Director of Human Resources supports the Senior Director of Human Resources in managing the daily operations of human resources functions for the college. This position involves assisting in recruitment and staffing; employee and labor relations; compliance with federal and state regulations and policy management; performance management, training, and development; HR data and reporting; and compensation and benefits administration. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills while fostering a positive and inclusive workplace environment.
A. Assists in the development and execution of recruitment strategies to attract qualified candidates for faculty, staff, and administrative positions; coordinates job postings and outreach efforts to diversify the applicant pool; facilitates scheduling interviews, hiring, and the onboarding processes for new employees ensuring a smooth transition into the college environment; manages writing and updating employee job descriptions. B. Serves as a point of contact for employees regarding HR-related concerns, questions, and issues; provides guidance on college policies and procedures, promoting a culture of respect, inclusion, and accountability. C. Assists the Senior Director of Human Resources with ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, as well as college policies and regulations; assists in the development, review, and implementation of HR policies and procedures; coordinates with external regulatory agencies, such as the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) to ensure legal compliance and affirmative action; provides consistent advice to managers/supervisors regarding policies and procedures. D. Supports performance evaluation processes for staff, faculty, and administrators, ensuring adherence to established timelines and standards; assists in the design and implementation of training programs to promote professional development, improve employee skills, and enhance college operations; assists Senior Director in supporting managers and supervisors with employee performance issues, including coaching, counseling, and disciplinary actions. E. Maintains accurate and up-to-date employee records, including personnel files, benefits, and leave information; assists in the preparation of HR-related reports, including staffing data, turnover, and other metrics to aid in decision-making. F. Assists in classification of employees; assists in administering employee benefits programs, including leave accruals, health insurance, SURS, and other employee rewards; answers employee inquiries regarding compensation, benefits, eligibility, and program details; supports open enrollment periods and assists with benefit program changes. G. Supervises, guides and directs the HR Administrative Specialist. H. Supports special projects as assigned by the Senior Director of Human Resources; participates in HR initiatives, including diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, as well as employee engagement; serves as an HR representative in meetings, committees, and workgroups as needed; actively contributes and participates on college committees as assigned, including but not limited to the culture of caring committee; serves as the main contact in the absence of the Senior Director of Human Resources; attends the commencement program.
A. Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred. B. Minimum of three years of professional experience in human resources required, preferably in higher education or a public sector environment. C. Extensive computer knowledge and experience required, preferably with Ellucian Colleague. D. Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations required. E. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills required. F. Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion required. G. Experience with HRIS systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and other HR software required. H. Strong organizational skills with diligence and the ability to manage multiple priorities required. I. Ability to work independently and as part of a team required. J. A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace required. K. SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP, highly preferred.
Hiring range: $66,407/yr. min. - $76,368/yr. 1st quartile - $86,329/yr. mid. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
