For more than 55 years, Good Shepherd Manor has provided residential and developmental services to adult men with intellectual and developmental disabilities. More than 100 men make their home in our community on a beautiful 60-acre rural campus near Momence, Illinois. Our approximately 24/7 workforce includes direct-care professionals, nursing, clinical, maintenance, dietary, administrative and other employees who work together to provide exceptional care and quality of life for the men we serve. We are seeking an experienced Human Resources Director to lead our HR function and join our senior leadership team. This is an excellent opportunity for an HR professional who enjoys the breadth and personal involvement of HR leadership in a smaller organization. This is a hands-on leadership role, not a position supported by multiple HR specialty departments. The HR Director supervises an HR Generalist and personally leads core HR functions while serving as a resource and advisor to the President/CEO and other Directors.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Human Resources Director provides leadership and day-to-day management of the HR function, ensuring timely, accurate and consistent administration of HR practices, regulatory requirements and organizational policies.
Responsibilities include:
Lead recruitment and retention efforts for our 24/7 workforce, including sourcing, screening, selection, onboarding and evaluation of recruitment outcomes. Manage employee relations matters, investigations, grievances and performance-management processes. Coach and advise supervisors and Directors regarding performance, attendance, disciplinary action, documentation, conflict resolution, and consistent application of policies. Administer and interpret our collective bargaining agreement and represent Good Shepherd Manor in labor-management, grievance, and contract-negotiation meetings. Oversee employee benefits, compensation administration, and employee leave programs, including
FMLA, ADA
accommodations and workers' compensation. Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. Manage employee separations, unemployment claims, and employment-related matters, coordinating with legal counsel when appropriate. Ensure completion and documentation of required background checks, screenings, licenses, credentials, and other employment-related regulatory requirements. Maintain effective HR systems, records and processes and ensure the accuracy, confidentiality, and integrity of employee information. Analyze turnover, retention, recruitment, and other HR data and recommend practical improvements. Provide HR reports and recommendations to executive leadership and the Board's Executive and Personnel Committees. Lead administration and oversight responsibilities related to the organization's employee retirement plan. Respond appropriately to time-sensitive HR matters that occasionally arise outside normal business hours in our 24/7 operating environment.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We are looking for a strong HR leader and problem-solver who can independently manage the full range of issues encountered in a small HR department.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
At least five years of progressively responsible HR generalist experience . Significant experience with employee relations, performance management, investigations, recruitment and retention, benefits, leave administration and employment-law compliance. Sound judgment and the ability to independently identify HR issues, research and evaluate appropriate responses, make recommendations and follow matters through resolution. Excellent organization, follow-through, discretion and attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Comfort working both strategically and hands-on . Proficiency with HRIS/payroll, applicant-tracking, benefits and related HR technology and the ability to use HR data to support decision-making. Experience working with an hourly workforce in healthcare, human services, nonprofit, manufacturing, hospitality or another 24/7 operating environment is strongly preferred. Experience in a union environment and interpreting/administering a collective bargaining agreement is strongly preferred.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or a related field required. PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or
