Multi-site; regular presence across AFC locations Position Summary A growing urgent care is seeking a hands-on, people-centered Human Resources Manager to lead the day-to-day HR function for approximately 100 employees across five locations, with continued expansion anticipated. Reporting to the CEO, this role will strengthen culture, leadership accountability, employee experience, talent practices and HR compliance while building scalable processes for a growing multi-site healthcare organization. The right person will be warm, trustworthy and highly approachable, while also having the judgment and courage to coach leaders, address difficult issues and create consistent expectations. The HR Manager will work closely with the CEO and the Operations team. Key Responsibilities Culture, Leadership & Employee Relations Champion a people-first culture grounded in trust, respect, warmth, accountability and open communication. Maintain a visible, approachable HR presence across locations and build strong relationships with employees and leaders. Coach managers on leadership, communication, performance, conflict and consistent application of policies. Manage employee relations, investigations, corrective action and performance concerns; escalate complex or high-risk matters appropriately. Strengthen performance management by connecting job expectations, organizational values, clinic metrics, feedback and accountability. Use stay interviews, exit feedback and workforce trends to improve engagement and retention. Talent Acquisition & Employee Experience Lead full-cycle recruiting in partnership with operations for clinical and non-clinical roles, including sourcing, screening, interview support and offers. Administer and optimize Paylocity's applicant tracking and HR functionality. Build a consistent onboarding and orientation experience that reinforces culture, policies, compliance expectations and patient-service standards. Partner with leadership on workforce planning, retention and staffing needs as company expands. Maintain current job descriptions and support compensation and exempt/non-exempt classification reviews. Compliance & Risk Maintain HR practices consistent with applicable Massachusetts and federal employment requirements, including FMLA, Massachusetts PFML, ADA/accommodations, wage and hour, earned sick time and pay transparency. Administer leave processes, personnel documentation and record-retention practices. Manage Form I-9 administration, audits and organizational readiness for government inquiries. Administer compliant background screening, including Massachusetts iCORI, national/federal criminal screening, OIG healthcare exclusion/sanctions screening and applicable employment/education verification. Partner with operations on OSHA recordkeeping, workers' compensation, safety documentation and required training. Monitor compliance trends and identify risks proactively. Remain in compliance with any other governing bodies such as DPH, etc. Benefits, HRIS & HR Operations Administer employee benefits in partnership with the CEO, brokers and vendors, including enrollment, qualifying events and employee communication. Support consistent benefits eligibility, enrollment and declination practices. Serve as the primary HR administrator for Paylocity and identify opportunities to automate and improve HR processes. Coordinate employee changes and payroll information with the CEO and support payroll accuracy and process improvement. Maintain useful HR metrics, including headcount, turnover, recruiting, attendance and retention. Coordinate required employee and leadership training and maintain compliance records. Qualifications 3-5+ years of progressive HR generalist/management experience with demonstrated ownership of employee relations, recruiting, compliance, benefits and HR operations. Strong judgment, emotional intelligence, communication and coaching capability. Working knowledge of Massachusetts employment law strongly preferred. Experience supporting a multi-site organization preferred; healthcare experience is a plus, not a requirement. Experience with Paylocity or a comparable HRIS preferred. Bachelor's degree in HR, business or related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience considered. SHRM-CP/SCP or
PHR/SPHR
preferred. What Success Looks Like Employees and leaders view HR as trusted, approachable, fair and consistent. Managers become more capable and accountable in leading their teams. Recruiting, onboarding, performance management and employee relations are consistent across locations. HR compliance and documentation are reliable, proactive and scalable. Leadership has better workforce data and less administrative HR burden. Retention and new-hire experience improve as the company continues to grow.
Compensation:
$95K-110K base salary, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
