In-Person Salary:

  • 120,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications About Performance Concrete Performance Concrete is an established Southern California concrete contractor serving the construction industry since 1984.

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on HR Generalist to support our approximately 45-employee union construction company. This position will serve as the primary point of contact for day-to-day human resources matters for both our field and office employees. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of California employment practices, experience working with a union construction workforce, and is comfortable working directly with employees, management, union representatives, payroll/accounting, and outside professionals. Fluency in both English and Spanish is required. Key Responsibilities Manage day-to-day HR functions for approximately 45 field and office employees Handle employee onboarding, orientation, personnel changes, and offboarding Maintain accurate and confidential personnel files and employment records Administer and interpret applicable collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) Coordinate with union representatives and assist with union-related employee matters Ensure employees are properly classified and that HR records reflect appropriate job classifications and wage information Manage employee relations matters, including coaching, disciplinary documentation, investigations, and terminations Assist management with consistent documentation of employee performance and workplace issues Coordinate employee leaves of absence and ensure compliance with applicable California and federal leave requirements Coordinate workers' compensation claims, return-to-work programs, and employee work restrictions Administer employee benefits and assist employees with benefits-related questions Partner with payroll/accounting regarding new hires, terminations, wage changes, classifications, benefits, deductions, and other employee information Support recruiting and hiring for field and office positions Maintain I-9s and other required employment documentation Assist with workplace safety and Cal/OSHA-related HR matters Maintain and update company policies, employee handbook, and HR procedures Help ensure compliance with California wage-and-hour and employment requirements Assist with prevailing-wage/public-works requirements and certified payroll coordination, when applicable Serve as an approachable and professional HR resource for employees and management Communicate directly with Spanish-speaking employees regarding HR matters, policies, benefits, workplace concerns, and company communications Required Qualifications Fluent in English and Spanish — required Minimum 3-5 years of Human Resources experience Strong working knowledge of California employment and wage-and-hour requirements Experience handling employee relations, disciplinary matters, investigations, and terminations Experience with workers' compensation, leaves of absence, benefits administration, and employee documentation Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with both field employees and management Excellent judgment, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality Highly organized with strong attention to detail Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of the HR function Strongly Preferred Previous HR experience in union construction Experience administering or working with collective bargaining agreements Knowledge of construction trades, union classifications, wage rates, and fringe benefits California public works and prevailing-wage experience Certified payroll knowledge Experience working with construction field employees and union representatives Familiarity with Cal/OSHA and construction safety practices What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who is hands-on, approachable, organized, and confident. This is not a purely administrative HR position. The HR Generalist will work directly with ownership, management, field employees, and office staff and should be comfortable handling sensitive employee matters while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality. The right person will understand that HR in a construction environment requires a practical approach, strong communication skills, attention to compliance, and the ability to build trust with employees in both the field and office. Candidates with significant California union-construction HR, CBA, prevailing-wage, and employee-relations experience may be considered at the higher end of the range.
