COMMUNITY WORKFORCE SPECIALIST

The Smart Workforce Center is looking for a Community Workforce Specialist to be the bridge between job seekers and employers in Trinity County, and we'd love for that person to be you! If you're driven, personable, and passionate about workforce development, keep reading! What You'll Do As our Community Workforce Specialist, you'll be the face of the Job Center. Welcoming clients, championing employers, and making powerful matches happen every day. Greeting and guiding customers and clients visiting the job center. Digging into what local employers really need and helping them solve their hiring challenges. Building lasting relationships with area businesses while promoting Smart Center programs and services. Matching qualified job seekers with the right opportunities. Coordinating client flow through our center and partner agencies. Helping job seekers chart a path to self-sufficient employment. Growing our presence in the business and community landscape. Evaluating and certifying participant eligibility for job training and education programs. Creating individualized employment plans and coordinating job-readiness activities. Keeping sharp, accurate client files, case notes, and tracking systems. Staying self-motivated and organized while collaborating with other Smart Center locations What Would Make You a Great Fit Familiarity with hiring practices, employment and labor law, marketing and sales, labor market information, contract writing, and effective job search strategies Comfort with Microsoft Word, Access, Outlook, and Excel High school diploma or AA/AS degree, plus the ability to earn workforce development and staffing industry certification within 9 months of hire (a condition of employment)
Preferred:
the equivalent of two years of college in human resources, psychology, business administration, social services, or a related field — a Bachelor's degree is a plus! A valid Class C driver's license (Smart Center participates in the California DMV Employer Pull Notice Program; a DMV printout must be submitted with your application)

Smart Workforce Center Community Workforce Specialist Exempt:
No Definition Under the supervision of the assigned supervisor or manager, the Community Workforce Specialist greets customers and visitors to the AJCC, provides appropriate processing and registration of client admissions to the AJCC, develops the connection between businesses and qualified job seekers; puts job seekers to work; organizes client flow through the company and partner agencies; develops and enhances business and community relationships; tracks and case manages, individual and training services to enhance the success of job seekers and to meet the hiring needs of the employer community. Duties and Responsibilities Manage initial contact with customers and clients visiting the AJCC; oversees client registration process and provides initial customer assessment to determine client needs up to and including case management; performs general reception duties; creates files and maintains various paper and electronic filing systems answers and makes telephone calls; works with vendors; creates documents, spreadsheets and presentations; maintains office supplies for reception and job center; operates varied office equipment including personal computers, printers, copiers, scanners, calculators and fax machines; enters information into documents and spreadsheets; proofreads; researches information; writes reports and tracks activities; coordinates projects as requested; updates job boards; keeps client handouts stocked and updated; makes follow-up calls to clients; understands the needs of employers to effectively assist businesses with their hiring needs; acts as liaison between businesses, job seekers, and partner agencies; develops, negotiates and monitors worksite training agreements and work experience contracts; assists worksites with trainee attainment of Job Specific Skills competencies; develops ongoing relationships with businesses while marketing programs and services; participates in job development and job placement activities; assess job seeker and employer needs; evaluates and certifies eligibility of adults and youth for job training and education programs creates employment plans and coordinates basic, remedial and job preparation activities; makes effective referrals to community, employment, training and support services/programs; leads workshops and present to groups; representing the organization at meetings and reports on progress; schedules and coordinates events; maintains excellent customer service; must be self-motivated, self-directed, and able to effectively plan work to meet goals and duties in an affiliate or satellite location while coordinating for support with other Smart Center locations. Complies with all WIOA requirements and other applicable state and federal regulations; performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of :
Business and professional practices; standard office equipment; correct English usage, basic math, spelling, grammar and punctuation; regulations and procedures; paper and electronic filing systems and procedures, Microsoft Word and Excel software; document scanning functions. Ability to : exercise good judgment; work well with others; assist and/or substitute for various administrative-level, non-managerial positions, maintain accuracy; operate a calculator and type; gather and compile data for reports, maintain confidentiality and use discretion; set priorities and carry out projects with minimal instruction; work well under pressure; maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work performed. Professional telephone etiquette, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple projects concurrently are required. Travel may be required in this position. If the incumbent drives a personal vehicle while performing required duties, automobile insurance with approved levels of bodily injury and property damage must be maintained. The assigned supervisor or human resource administrator will advise the incumbent of the required levels based on driving frequency. The Smart Business Resource Center participates in the California DMV Employer Pull Notice (EPN) program. Employee participation in the EPN program is required. Qualifications A High School Diploma and at least two years of related work experience are required. Must type 45 wpm. Physical Demands In order to successfully perform the various duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, frequently required to sit, occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms, and occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by every employee.
