HR Generalist/ Employee Relations

Job Description

Position Summary The Human Resources (HR) Generalist / Employee Relations is responsible for supporting and administering a broad range of human resources functions while serving as a trusted advisor to managers and employees on employee relations matters. This position partners with leadership to foster a positive, compliant, and productive work environment through effective employee relations practices, policy administration, performance management support, talent acquisition, onboarding, training, and HR operational support. The role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and organizational policies while promoting employee engagement and organizational effectiveness. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesEmployee Relations Serve as the primary resource for employee relations matters, including conflict resolution, investigations, performance concerns, and workplace issues. Advise managers and employees on employment policies, procedures, disciplinary actions, performance improvement plans, and grievance processes. Conduct or assist with employee relations investigations and recommend appropriate corrective actions. Draft progressive disciplinary documentation and assist with performance management initiatives. Support the resolution of formal and informal employee complaints and grievances. Provide guidance regarding employee rights, due process, and compliance with employment laws and regulations. Utilize mediation and conflict resolution techniques to promote positive workplace relationships. Human Resources Operations Support the delivery of HR services throughout the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, employee development, and offboarding. Administer employee benefits, leaves of absence, and compensation-related programs. Maintain accurate employee records, HRIS data, payroll-related information, and personnel files. Act as a point of contact for employee questions regarding HR policies, benefits, compensation, leaves, and employment matters. Assist managers with talent acquisition activities, recruitment efforts, and workforce planning. Coordinate and facilitate new hire orientation and onboarding programs. Promote HR initiatives that support employee engagement, retention, and organizational culture. Compliance and Policy Administration Ensure compliance with EEOC requirements, labor laws, HIPAA regulations, and all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws. Interpret and administer HR and employee relations policies consistently across the organization. Assist in the development, revision, and implementation of HR policies and procedures. Respond to unemployment claims, discrimination charges, and employment-related legal matters. Partner with leadership to identify and mitigate employment-related risks while maintaining organizational compliance. Organizational Support and Performance Management Partner with managers to improve organizational effectiveness and employee performance. Assist with performance review processes and employee development initiatives. Analyze HR metrics and trends to identify opportunities for improvement. Support special projects, strategic initiatives, and continuous process improvement efforts. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with employees, managers, and leadership teams. Additional Responsibilities Maintain confidentiality of sensitive employee and organizational information. Demonstrate sound judgment, professionalism, and ethical conduct in all interactions. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum QualificationsEducation Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Employment Law, Labor Relations, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience Three to five years of progressive Human Resources experience. Demonstrated experience handling employee relations matters, workplace investigations, conflict resolution, and performance management. Experience working in a fast-paced, multi-site or geographically dispersed organization preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong knowledge of HR principles, employment law, employee relations, and HR best practices. Ability to effectively mediate conflicts and facilitate resolutions. Experience with performance management, coaching, and corrective action processes. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of HIPAA, data privacy requirements, and employment regulations. Proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office applications. Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, discretion, and sound judgment. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Physical Requirements Must be able to frequently stand, sit, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch. Must occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
