HR Generalist - Payroll and Benefits

Job Description

The Human Resources Generalist - Payroll and Benefits is responsible for administering accurate payroll processes, supporting employee benefits programs, and performing Human Resources functions that ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements. This role requires strong payroll knowledge, benefits administration experience, attention to detail, and the ability to partner with employees, managers, vendors, and internal stakeholders. Job Responsibilities Prepare, process, audit, and reconcile bi-weekly payroll, bonus payroll, and off-cycle payrolls accurately and on schedule Review payroll data, deductions, earnings, taxes, garnishments, benefit deductions, and other payroll inputs to ensure accuracy and compliance Partner with Supervisors/Managers to review, correct, and approve time cards, missed punches, schedules, and timekeeping exceptions Maintain payroll records and support payroll reporting, audits, employee inquiries, and issue resolution Work with outside staffing agencies and verify temporary employee time card reports to ensure accuracy prior to processing Process and verify all verifications of employment/income Prepare and process unemployment claims and respond to related documentation requests Administer employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, FSA, and other company-sponsored benefits, while maintaining knowledge of plan provisions and eligibility requirements Support benefits enrollment, qualifying life events, employee questions, carrier/vendor coordination, and benefit changes in the HR/payroll system Reconcile monthly benefit invoices to ensure premiums, coverage levels, employee deductions, and carrier records are accurate Prepare FMLA forms for eligible employees and monitor long-term and/or intermittent leave activity Prepare STD/LTD forms for eligible employees and coordinate related documentation and follow-up Participate in New Employee Orientation by reviewing company policies, benefits information, payroll/timekeeping expectations, and required onboarding documents Process new hire information, maintain employee files, and create/manage employee badges Attend and participate in job fairs and recruitment efforts as needed Cross-train within the Human Resources department and provide support to HR team members as needed Other duties as assigned Experience Requirements Minimum of 3 years of Human Resources experience with strong hands-on payroll processing experience required Benefits administration experience required, including enrollment support, invoice reconciliation, employee questions, and vendor/carrier coordination Experience with ADP Workforce Now, timekeeping systems, payroll/HRIS platforms, payroll deductions, wage and hour practices, and confidential employee data preferred Must have strong attention to detail, accuracy, follow-through, and the ability to meet payroll and benefits deadlines Must have excellent computer skills and be proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel Must have a sense of urgency and be able to work in a fast-paced environment while handling sensitive information with discretion Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to support employees and managers professionally Education Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and relevant payroll, benefits, and Human Resources experience may be considered.
