Internship Description:
Huntington Drug & Alcohol Prevention Services, a division of the Huntington Youth Bureau Youth Development Research Institute Inc., is looking for an intern interested in learning aspects of the Substance Misuse Prevention field. The Intern who fills this position should expect to gain entry-level experience and learn about substance use disorder prevention science, content, and practices. The PPIO is designed as a comprehensive and robust experience that affords the intern the education and training that could help lead to a Certified Prevention Professional (CPP) or Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS) credential. At minimum, and upon completion of the full year internship, the intern could earn 60 hours of Prevention-specific education and training to add toward earning a CPP or CPS credential.
Responsibilities:
This work includes but is not limited to, learning and exposure to Evidence Based Programs (EBPs) such as Teen Intervene and Too Good For Drugs, Township of Huntington community engagement, participation in Environmental Change Strategy efforts, attendance at community coalition meetings/events on behalf of the agency, helping to establish relationships in the community, parent meetings and workshops, leading/co-leading workshops shadowing other prevention professionals, data collecting and reporting. Provide agency outreach at local schools, agencies, and community events. Design, format, and edit print resources to promote educational awareness. Research and maintain current knowledge of drug trends and local related issues.
REQUIREMENTS
Upon hire at $20 per hour/14 hours a week, Intern will be required to take the five-hour Pre-Substance Abuse Prevention Skills Training (SAPST) online course to become acclimated to Prevention work and will participate in the 26-hour (4-day) SAPST and other trainings coordinated by Huntington Youth Bureau and New York State
OASAS. SALARY
$20/hour, 14 hours per week •Please note- THIS
IS A GRANT-BASED, ONE YEAR POSITION, DETAILS WILL BE GIVEN TO INTERESTED PARTIES.
The internship starts October 1, 2026.
