LEAD THE FULL OWNER-OPERATOR RECRUITING PROCESS
Status Transportation is seeking a hands-on department manager to lead owner-operator recruiting from marketing and lead generation through qualification, orientation, onboarding, and activation. You will manage the recruiting team, personally work key prospects, and turn recruiting activity into qualified owner-operators who join and stay with our fleet. This role is based in our Winter Garden office. It is an opportunity to build a disciplined recruiting operation, improve the candidate experience, and work closely with company leadership, Safety, Compliance, Dispatch, and Operations to support fleet growth.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
Marketing and lead generation Plan and execute owner-operator recruiting campaigns across social media, job boards, referrals, trucking communities, and industry networks. Develop clear recruiting ads, messages, and outreach campaigns that accurately explain the opportunity. Track lead sources, lead quality, advertising spend, and cost per activated owner-operator; recommend where to invest the recruiting budget. Recruiting and pipeline management Lead the process from first contact through application, qualification review, orientation, and activation. Personally recruit owner-operators, handle questions and objections, and coach recruiters on effective conversations and consistent follow-up. Establish response and follow-up standards, maintain accurate CRM records, and resolve stalled applications. Clearly explain company terms, compensation structure, freight opportunities, equipment requirements, and operating expectations using accurate, approved information. Orientation and onboarding Own orientation scheduling, candidate communication, attendance, and readiness; coordinate and help deliver orientation with the appropriate departments. Coordinate required documentation, Safety and Compliance reviews, and agreement completion with the responsible teams before activation. Create a smooth handoff to Dispatch and Operations and follow up after activation to identify expectation gaps and early retention concerns. Department leadership Train, coach, and manage recruiters; support recruiting-team hiring as needed. Build recruiting scripts, workflows, checklists, and reporting that the team uses consistently. Set individual and department goals with leadership, review performance weekly, and address obstacles across the recruiting process. Protect candidate information and maintain professional, ethical recruiting practices.
WHAT YOU BRING
Demonstrated success directly recruiting owner-operators in the trucking industry, with specific examples of results. Experience supervising and coaching recruiters or leading a recruiting department. Experience generating recruiting leads and evaluating campaign performance, conversion rates, and recruiting costs. Strong understanding of trucking operations, the owner-operator business model, and the qualification and onboarding process. Ability to manage a recruiting CRM or applicant tracking system, organize follow-up, and use data to improve results. Strong communication, relationship-building, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. Availability to work in person at our Winter Garden, Florida office.
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE WE VALUE
Building or improving a recruiting department, orientation program, or referral program. An established professional network within the owner-operator community. Familiarity with FMCSA requirements and driver qualification procedures. Experience developing recruiting campaigns, dashboards, or recruiter incentive plans. Bilingual communication skills are a plus.
HOW SUCCESS WILL BE MEASURED
Qualified owner-operator leads and cost per qualified lead by source. Conversion from lead to application, approval, orientation attendance, and activation. Time to activation, recruiting costs, and monthly fleet-growth results. Recruiting-team performance, reliable follow-up, and complete onboarding handoffs. Early owner-operator retention, reviewed with Operations. Your first priorities will be to assess the existing recruiting process, establish reliable reporting, strengthen campaigns and follow-up, and implement a consistent orientation and onboarding workflow. Performance targets will be aligned with leadership and operating capacity.
