Position Overview:
Karst Stage is seeking a Safety & Training Specialist to lead the company's safety, compliance, and training initiatives. This position will help foster a strong safety culture while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and industry standards. The Specialist will collaborate with leadership and employees to proactively identify risks, improve training, and promote safe and effective operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Compliance
Leads the Company's regulatory compliance programs, policies, procedures, and reporting to ensure Karst Stage meets or exceeds applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
Ensure compliance with applicable USDOT, FMCSA, and FTA rules and regulations. Oversee the accuracy, completeness, and maintenance of Driver Qualification (DQ) files and vehicle maintenance records . Monitor and manage compliance with FMCSA Clearinghouse, CSA, and SAFER requirements. Oversee FMCSA and FTA Drug & Alcohol Program requirements, including applicable testing, reporting, and recordkeeping. Ensure compliance with OSHA, MTOSHA, and other applicable state OSHA requirements , in coordination with state Workers' Compensation programs. Monitor regulatory changes and implement updates to policies, procedures, and processes as needed. Coordinate and respond to regulatory audits, inspections, and compliance reviews from applicable federal, state, and local agencies. Safety
Leads initiatives that promote a proactive, behavior-based safety culture by identifying risks, preventing incidents, and driving continuous improvement across the organization.
Evaluate safety trends, incidents, and concerns to identify opportunities for improvement and recommend corrective and preventative actions . Manage claims, loss control activities, and safety-related investigations . Review and determine crash preventability in accordance with FMCSA's Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) program and accepted industry standards. Partner with leadership and operations to address safety concerns and promote consistent safe work practices across all locations. Communicates and implements training programs that promote employee safety, develop skills, and support professional development across Karst Stage.
Implement and maintain employee safety and training programs. Lead new driver orientation and driver training programs, ensuring training requirements, documentation, and standards are consistently met. Collaborate with Driver Supervisors across regions to ensure all first-year drivers receive the coaching and supervision outlined in the first-year curriculum.
Qualifications:
Strong work ethic with a positive attitude. Bachelor's degree in a related field and 5+ years of related experience preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Supervisory experience in the transportation and/or logistics fields, specifically in management of a commercial motor fleet preferred. Experience conducting or supporting safety investigations, incident reviews, audits, or regulatory compliance activities preferred. Licensed CDL or the ability to obtain one within 6 months is preferred. Professional driving experience is a plus. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Able to identify safety trends, evaluate risks, interpret data, and recommend effective corrective or preventive actions. Technical Skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable learning and using compliance, safety, and training systems.

Work Environment The position requires a combination of office and field work. The Specialist will spend time riding scheduled runs and monitoring bus operations and drivers in the field, including exposure to varying weather conditions.
