Temporary employee or independent consultant Position Summary IRIS Environmental Laboratories is seeking an experienced Senior ICP-OES Specialist for an immediate 30- to 45-day assignment supporting the implementation, optimization, validation, and documentation of EPA Methods 200.5 and 200.7 for drinking-water and non-potable-water matrices. The selected specialist will evaluate and optimize IRIS's existing ICP-OES analytical program, correct technical findings identified during a recent NJDEP assessment, conduct required method studies, support proficiency-testing analyses, revise SOPs, develop compliant QC and raw-data documentation, and assist with preparation of the laboratory's corrective-action response. Candidates with strong experience using other modern axial, radial, or dual-view ICP-OES or ICP MS platforms are encouraged to apply. Required Instrument Experience Candidates must have substantial hands-on experience operating, troubleshooting, optimizing, and validating ICP-OES systems used for environmental metals analysis.

Relevant instrument experience may include:

Agilent ICP-OES systems. Thermo Scientific iCAP systems. PerkinElmer Optima or Avio systems. Shimadzu ICP-OES systems. Spectro Arcos, Blue, or comparable systems. Horiba or other equivalent environmental

Minimum Qualifications Candidates should possess:

Bachelor's degree or higher in chemistry, analytical chemistry, environmental science, or a related scientific discipline. At least five years of hands-on

ICP-OES / MS

experience in an environmental, drinking-water, wastewater, or commercial testing laboratory. Demonstrated experience implementing, validating, or routinely performing EPA Method 200.5 and/or EPA Method 200.7 . Demonstrated ability to develop and evaluate calibration curves, reporting limits, MDLs, DOCs, LDRs, spectral-interference studies, rinse-time studies, and analytical QC. Experience troubleshooting sensitivity, carryover, contamination, drift, background correction, spectral overlap, and sample-introduction problems. Working knowledge of

TNI, NELAP, ISO/IEC

17025, or comparable regulated laboratory quality systems. Ability to revise technical SOPs and prepare complete, traceable raw-data packages. Ability to work independently and complete critical technical work under an accelerated deadline. Availability to work primarily on-site in Union, New Jersey. Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to candidates with: Experience with Agilent ICP-OES instruments or Agilent ICP Expert software. Experience transferring EPA 200.5 or

methods between different ICP platforms. Experience bringing an environmental metals method into regulatory accreditation. Prior work with NJDEP, another NELAP accreditation body, or a state drinking-water certification program. Experience performing single-element spectral-interference studies. Experience analyzing metals proficiency-testing samples. Experience training and qualifying laboratory personnel. Experience writing corrective-action plans in response to laboratory assessment findings. Revised Instrument-Optimization Responsibilities The specialist will: Review the current ICP-OES instrument configuration and analytical methods. Evaluate analyte wavelengths, alternate wavelengths, background-correction locations, plasma conditions, nebulizer flow, viewing mode, internal standards, uptake time, stabilization time, and rinse settings. Adapt prior ICP-OES experience to IRIS's existing Agilent platform. Troubleshoot carryover, contamination, drift, sensitivity, spectral interference, calibration instability, and sample-introduction issues. Establish reproducible instrument operating conditions for EPA 200.5 and

EPA 200.7.

Configure compliant calibration, QC, sample, blank, interference-check, and closing-check sequences. Develop written startup, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and shutdown procedures. Train IRIS personnel to operate the finalized analytical methods.
