Job Description

Hill Country Humane Society is seeking a dependable, hardworking Animal Associate who enjoys working with both animals and people. This is a hands-on shelter position that combines daily animal care, cleaning, adoptions, customer service, enrichment and basic medical support.
Schedule:
Wednesday - Saturday Responsibilities Clean and sanitize kennels, cages and animal care areas Assist visitors with adoptions and help match families with the right pet Feed animals and provide fresh water Complete laundry, dishes and other daily shelter cleaning Provide friendly, professional customer service in person and by phone Learn basic medical tasks, including recognizing signs of illness and assisting with routine treatments Participate in dog playgroups, walks and enrichment activities Provide enrichment and socialization for cats and dogs Maintain accurate animal records and communicate important information to the team Other shelter duties as needed What to Expect The first few hours of each shift are focused heavily on cleaning, feeding and preparing the shelter for the day. The remainder of the shift typically includes working with the public, completing adoptions, helping with playgroups and providing enrichment and care for the animals. Qualifications Excellent customer service and communication skills Dependable, punctual and able to work Wednesday through Saturday Comfortable working with dogs and cats of different sizes, breeds and temperaments Willing to clean for several hours each day Able to follow instructions, work as part of a team and remain calm in a busy environment Willing to learn basic animal handling, medical care and shelter procedures Able to safely lift and carry supplies and perform physical work throughout the shift Previous animal care or customer service experience is helpful but not required We are looking for someone who understands that shelter work is physical, fast-paced and sometimes messy, but also incredibly rewarding. The right person will care deeply about animals while also making every visitor feel welcomed and supported.
Pay:
$14.00 - $17.00 per hour Expected hours: 26.0 - 32.0 per week
