Summary Thundering Paws offers a safe haven for cats who are homeless, neglected, injured, or abused. Since 2001, Thundering Paws has operated a no-kill, non-profit 501(c)(3) sanctuary located just outside of Austin, Texas. The primary focus of the Animal Care Specialist is to provide for the sanitation, care, and maintenance of cats and the sanctuary environment. The schedule for this role will be 5 days a week with two days off. Duties and Responsibilities Maintain animal spaces and the sanctuary in a neat, clean/sanitary, and orderly manner including scooping litter boxes, changing linens, cleaning/disinfecting cages and surfaces and sweeping/mopping the floor. Clean carriers, cages, litter boxes, and other supplies used at an outdoor sink. Launder, fold and store animal linens and bedding as needed. Monitor and stock supplies as needed. Monitor both physical and behavioral health and report any issues immediately. Provide all cats on site with their appropriate food, water, bedding, mental stimulation and enrichment, social interaction with humans and, where appropriate, members of their own species. Administer oral or topical medications as required. Utilize the medical records system to review animal records and document observations and treatments. Physical Job Requirements Must be able to lift 30 lbs. Must be able to work around animals (including diseased, injured, and/or potentially aggressive animals), loud noises, unpleasant smells, chlorine or other chemicals, indoors, and outdoors in all weather. Must be able to stand and walk on hard surfaces for multiple hours at a time. Qualifications and Experience One year experience working with cats and knowledge of cat behavior is required. Experience volunteering or working with a rescue group, humane society, or other animal welfare agency, or a veterinary clinic is required. Proficiency with Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office products. Must be flexible and able to jump into any task that needs to be completed. Ability and initiative to work with minimal supervision and direction. Strong time management and organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be proficient in English. High school diploma required.
