Part-Time Zookeeper

• only applications submitted through the City of Oshkosh website will be considered (www.oshkoshwi.gov) Join our dynamic team as a Zookeeper and become a vital steward of wildlife conservation and animal care. In this energetic role, you will be responsible for routine husbandry, monitoring, and enrichment of diverse animal species and support our zoological facility. Your passion for animals and commitment to their well-being will help foster a safe, educational, and engaging environment for visitors and animals alike. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to work hands-on with wildlife and promote conservation efforts through dedicated animal care. Duties Provide care and feeding for a variety of animals, ensuring their health, safety, and comfort. Monitor animal behavior and health, recognizing signs of illness or distress, and communicate findings to full-time staff. Assist with habitat maintenance, enrichment activities, and environmental modifications to promote natural behaviors. Maintain detailed records of animal health, behavior observations, dietary intake, and research data in compliance with regulatory standards. Perform general and preventative maintenance work on zoo grounds to include sidewalks, restrooms and other public areas. Education and Experience Must be at least 18 years old Preference will be given to candidates with secondary education coursework related to captive wildlife, biology, animal behaviors or related areas of study. Preference will be given to candidates with one or more years of experience in a job that involves the care of mammals, birds, reptiles or other animals found in zoos. Skills Knowledge in horticultural practices, including working with plants, shrubs, trees, and ground covers. Good interpersonal and communication skills, be team oriented, and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees. Ability to take direction and train with professional staff to properly and safely perform animal care. Ability to work with delicate and occasionally dangerous animals. Knowledge of and ability in routine building and grounds cleaning and maintenance methods, materials and practices, especially as it relates to the maintenance and cleaning of zoo pens, cages and enclosures. Ability to follow training, recognize hazards, and follow appropriate safety precautions. Ability to interact and deal courteously and tactfully with zoo visitors. Ability to troubleshoot functions related to zoo operations. Pay:

$16.59 - $19.35 per hour Expected hours: 5.0 per week People with a criminal record are encouraged to apply
