Full Job Description Pay:
$15.00-$16.50 per hour, based on experience The Humane Society of St. Lucie County is seeking a reliable, experienced, and compassionate Canine Care Technician to join our animal care team. This position is responsible for providing daily care to shelter dogs, including feeding, watering, kennel cleaning, walking, and enrichment. The ideal candidate is comfortable handling dogs of all sizes, breeds, and temperaments and understands the importance of recognizing and responding to individual behavioral and welfare needs. Responsibilities Provide daily care, exercise, enrichment, and socialization for shelter dogs. Clean and disinfect kennels, yards, and equipment. Safely handle and move dogs throughout the shelter. Monitor dogs for changes in health, behavior, appetite, or overall well-being. Follow animal handling, sanitation, safety, and disease-prevention protocols. Communicate behavioral and medical concerns to appropriate staff. Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe shelter environment. Qualifications Previous professional experience working with dogs is preferred. Shelter, kennel, veterinary, boarding, daycare, grooming, or training experience is a plus. Knowledge of basic canine behavior and safe handling techniques. Dependable, hardworking, and able to work effectively as part of a team. Comfortable performing physical, hands-on work and working in outdoor conditions. Must be comfortable working around dogs with a variety of temperaments and behavioral needs.
