Full Job Description Midday Dog Walker Service Area:
Cranberry Township, Mars, Wexford, Franklin Park, Economy, and nearby areas. North Hills Pet Care is a young and growing local company providing professional dog walking and pet sitting services in clients' homes throughout Pittsburgh's North Hills. We are hiring a dependable and experienced Midday Dog Walker with consistent availability between approximately 11 AM and 2 PM on weekdays . This position requires someone who is already comfortable handling dogs independently and can confidently enter a client's home, follow detailed care instructions, safely manage the dog on a walk, recognize when something does not seem right, and communicate clearly with both clients and management. Because our dog walkers work independently in the field, we are specifically looking for applicants who already have strong dog handling skills, good judgment, attention to detail, and professional communication skills. Training will cover North Hills Pet Care's procedures, scheduling system, and service expectations, but applicants should already have the foundational skills needed to safely and confidently care for dogs. We are actively building our local client base, so this is a flexible, part time opportunity best suited for someone looking for supplemental income rather than guaranteed full time hours. Position Details Part time W2 employee position Primary availability needed between approximately 11 AM and 2 PM on weekdays Visits are scheduled based on client needs and may vary from week to week In field dog walks and drop in visits are paid on a piece rate basis based on visit length Current piece rates are $12 for a 20 minute visit, $14 for a 30 minute visit, and $20 for a 60 minute visit Paid onboarding, training, meetings, and other non visit work are paid at $17 per hour Work is performed independently in clients' homes and neighborhoods Reliable transportation between client homes is required Responsibilities Midday Dog Walkers may be responsible for: Completing scheduled dog walks and drop in visits during the midday service window Safely walking dogs of different sizes, breeds, ages, and energy levels Confidently handling dogs that may pull, become excited, or require additional attention on walks Following detailed pet and home care instructions accurately Using appropriate judgment when encountering other dogs, wildlife, people, weather concerns, or unexpected situations during a walk Providing fresh water, meals, medications, or other care when included in the client's instructions Monitoring pets for changes in behavior, mobility, appetite, health, or comfort Sending clear, detailed written updates and quality photos after each visit Communicating promptly with management when questions, concerns, or unexpected situations arise Securing clients' homes according to instructions before leaving Treating every client's pet and home with care and respect Reviewing all relevant pet, home, and visit information before providing care What We Are Looking For This position is a good fit for someone who can work independently without needing close supervision and who understands the responsibility involved in caring for someone else's pet.
Strong candidates will:
Be comfortable making appropriate decisions while working independently in the field Communicate clearly and professionally in writing Pay close attention to instructions and small details Be dependable and consistently arrive within assigned service windows Understand basic dog body language and recognize signs of fear, stress, overstimulation, or discomfort Know how to safely manage dogs on leash and respond appropriately to distractions Be comfortable asking questions when something is unclear and promptly reporting concerns Required Qualifications Applicants must: Be at least 18 years old Be able to pass a background check Have a valid driver's license Have a reliable personal vehicle and current auto insurance Have a smartphone with reliable service Have reliable transportation throughout the service area listed above Have consistent weekday availability between approximately 11 AM and 2 PM Have meaningful hands on experience caring for and handling dogs Be comfortable walking and handling dogs independently Be able to follow detailed written instructions accurately Be able to write clear, professional client updates Be dependable, observant, organized, and comfortable working independently Dog handling experience may come from professional dog walking or pet sitting, personal dog ownership, fostering, rescue work, shelters, kennels, veterinary settings, training environments, or another setting that provided substantial hands on experience with dogs. Preferred Experience The following experience is especially helpful: Professional dog walking or pet sitting Regular leash handling with multiple types of dogs Large or strong dogs Dogs that pull or become excited on leash Puppies and senior dogs Dogs with different temperaments or behavioral needs Medication administration Veterinary, kennel, shelter, rescue, fostering, or dog training experience Professional communication with pet owners Scheduling Expectations Our greatest need is during the weekday midday period, particularly between approximately 11 AM and 2 PM. Applicants should have recurring availability during this window rather than occasional availability that changes significantly from week to week. Because clients rely on midday care while they are away from home, dependability is extremely important. Once visits are assigned and accepted, employees are expected to remain available and complete them as scheduled.
