The Position The Sober Home Operator is responsible for the day-to-day operation and success of an assigned sober living home . The Operator works closely with Vanderburgh House leadership and House Mentor(s) to maintain a safe, supportive, and recovery-focused environment for residents. The Operator serves as a primary point of contact for the home and is responsible for making sure the home is operating according to Vanderburgh House standards, policies, and expectations. This includes maintaining the home, supporting residents, communicating with the House Mentor(s), addressing day-to-day concerns, and making sure necessary tasks and responsibilities are completed. The Operator will communicate regularly with one or two designated members of Vanderburgh House leadership and will bring questions, concerns, and issues to them when additional guidance or support is needed. The primary responsibility of the Operator is to ensure the home is well-run, safe, organized, and provides a positive environment that supports residents in their recovery. Role Responsibilities Oversee the day-to-day operations of the assigned sober living home Maintain regular communication with Vanderburgh House leadership Work closely with House Mentor(s) to ensure the home is running smoothly Help maintain a safe, clean, organized, and recovery-focused home environment Support and communicate with residents regarding day-to-day house matters Ensure house rules, policies, and Vanderburgh House expectations are followed Address resident concerns and communicate significant issues to leadership Monitor the condition of the home and report maintenance or repair needs Assist with move-ins, move-outs, and other resident transitions Maintain required house documentation and records Monitor occupancy and communicate changes to the appropriate team members Assist with collections and other basic financial responsibilities as applicable Coordinate with Vanderburgh House departments when additional assistance is needed Participate in required meetings, training, and check-ins Build positive relationships within the local recovery community when appropriate Help create a welcoming and supportive environment for residents Identify problems early and communicate them to leadership so they can be addressed appropriately Follow through on tasks and action items assigned by Vanderburgh House leadership Reporting Structure The Operator will report directly to designated Vanderburgh House leadership and will maintain regular communication with their assigned leadership contacts. The Operator is expected to communicate openly and promptly regarding resident concerns, maintenance issues, operational challenges, and anything that may affect the safety or success of the home. Required Skills/Abilities Strong communication and interpersonal skills Reliable, organized, and responsible approach to work Ability to work independently and manage day-to-day responsibilities Ability to communicate effectively with residents and leadership Strong problem-solving skills Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with residents Ability to follow policies, procedures, and organizational standards Comfortable handling day-to-day issues and knowing when to seek additional support Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred Experience in recovery, sober living, behavioral health, or a related field preferred but not required What Success Looks Like A successful Operator is present, reliable, organized, and proactive . They understand what is happening in the home, communicate effectively with residents and leadership, address issues before they become bigger problems, and make sure the home remains a safe and supportive place for people in recovery. The Operator does not need to have all the answers. They need to know when to ask for help, communicate concerns, follow through on responsibilities, and take ownership of the day-to-day success of the home.
