The Laundry Attendant is responsible for maintaining a clean, comfortable, and sanitary environment by properly processing, cleaning, folding, and distributing linens, bedding, towels, and residents' personal clothing. This position plays a vital role in ensuring quality infection control, maintaining linen inventories, and upholding high standards of resident dignity and satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities & Duties Sorting & Processing:

Collect, sort, and inspect soiled linens, towels, and personal resident laundry according to fabric care labels, color, and sanitary guidelines.

Washing & Drying:

Load and operate commercial washing machines and dryers; select appropriate cycles, water temperatures, and cleaning chemicals according to established safety protocols.

Folding & Finishing:

Promptly remove clean items from dryers to prevent wrinkles; neatly fold, iron (if necessary), and stack linens and personal clothing items.

Distribution & Delivery:

Accurately label, organize, and return clean personal items to residents' apartments/rooms; deliver clean linens to storage closets and designated department areas.

Chemical Safety & Maintenance:

Safely handle laundry detergents, bleaches, and fabric softeners following Safety Data Sheets (SDS). Monitor equipment performance and report maintenance needs or safety hazards immediately.

Infection Control & Sanitation:

Adhere to all facility sanitation standards, local health regulations, and OSHA protocols regarding universal precautions and biohazard handling. Keep the laundry room clean, swept, lint-free, and organized.

Inventory Control:

Monitor laundry supplies and linen levels; notify the supervisor when supply reorders are needed or when linens are damaged beyond repair.

Resident Interaction:

Interact with residents, family members, and staff in a warm, respectful, and courteous manner while respecting resident privacy and property.

Qualifications & Skills Education:

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Experience:

Prior commercial laundry, housekeeping, or hospitality experience preferred, but on-the-job training is provided.

Knowledge & Skills:

Basic knowledge of fabric care, stain removal, and garment labeling. Ability to safely operate commercial laundry equipment and handle cleaning chemicals. Strong attention to detail to ensure personal laundry items are returned to the correct resident. Ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions. Physical Requirements Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 35-50 lbs regularly (e.g., loaded laundry carts, heavy bags of wet linen). Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and perform repetitive hand movements for extended periods. Tolerant of warm or humid environments and exposure to laundry chemicals/cleaning products.
