The Staten Island FerryHawks are dedicated to creating a vibrant, fan-first experience on and off the field. Competing in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, an MLB Partner League, we play our home games at SIUH Community Park on the St. George waterfront, combining competitive professional baseball with year-round community entertainment. Our internship program gives students hands-on, educational experience alongside and under the supervision of the staff who run a professional sports organization, in their chosen area of study.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Motion Graphics Intern gains hands-on experience creating animated graphics in a live professional sports environment. Under the supervision of the entertainment staff, the intern learns how video board, broadcast, studio, and in-game animations are designed and run, a professional setting few programs can match.
GAME-DAY COMMITMENT
This internship requires being present at designated home games. Home game dates and times are listed on the current schedule, available as a PDF on the FerryHawks website (ferryhawks.com). Call time is a typically of 2.5 hours before first pitch and can run longer depending on the game day. Interns must be available for designated home games, including July 4th.
WHAT THE INTERN WILL EXPERIENCE AND LEARN
Under the supervision of the staff member they report to, and as part of their training, the intern will gain hands-on experience with and exposure to the following. Staff lead the work; interns learn by observing and assisting. Learn how animated graphics are built for the video board and in-game presentation. See how broadcast and studio motion packages are designed and used. Gain hands-on experience in After Effects and the club's visual style on practice builds. Develop spec and practice pieces reviewed by staff as training. Learn how motion templates and project files are organized. Experience how live-event graphics come together on a game day.
ELIGIBILITY
Currently enrolled student pursuing a degree in motion design, animation, film, graphic design, digital media, or a related field, and able to earn academic credit through their school. Familiarity with Adobe After Effects; Blender, Unreal Engine, Cinema 4D, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, or Photoshop a plus. A reel or samples of prior motion or animation work. Written confirmation of eligibility for credits from current school.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Hands-on motion graphics experience for a pro team. A reel of practice video board, broadcast, and in-game pieces. Exposure to live-event and broadcast graphics. An understanding of working to a brand on deadline.
COMPENSATION & ACADEMIC CREDIT
This is an unpaid internship, offered for academic credit only, in conjunction with the student's school and in accordance with that school's requirements for earning credit. It is an educational training experience, not employment. The intern is not an employee for minimum wage or overtime purposes, is not guaranteed a job at the end of the internship, is free to pursue other opportunities in the field, and receives no employee benefits. The student arranges credit through their college or university, and the FerryHawks coordinate with the school and provide the documentation and supervisor sign-off the school requires. We are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, gender identity, marital or veteran status, or any other protected class.
