Ambient Recruiting is partnering with a progressive Northern Michigan manufacturer in Harbor Springs to hire a dependable and motivated Shop Hand Helper . This is an opportunity for someone who wants to work with their hands, learn from experienced welders and fabricators, and develop valuable skills in welding, metal fabrication, and industrial manufacturing. Previous welding, metal fabrication, or shop experience is highly valued, but our client is also willing to invest in the right person. We're looking for someone who is reliable, trustworthy, coachable, mechanically inclined, and genuinely interested in learning and growing with the company. You'll work alongside experienced team members, assist with fabrication and assembly projects, learn how to work with different materials and tools, and gradually take on more responsibility as your skills develop. What You'll Be Doing As a Shop Hand Helper, you'll support experienced welders and fabricators throughout the manufacturing and fabrication process. Depending on your current skills and training, you'll: Assist welders and fabricators with day-to-day shop projects Help fabricate parts used in the assembly and manufacture of industrial equipment Measure, prepare, cut, grind, sand, and finish metal components Operate hand and power tools safely Use grinders, sanders, cut-off saws, and other common shop equipment Assist with fitting and assembling fabricated components Learn to read and interpret layout drawings, assembly drawings, and job specifications Prepare materials and components for welding and assembly Assist with MIG and TIG welding projects based on experience and ability Work with stainless steel and other fabrication materials Learn additional welding and metal fabrication techniques Help maintain tools, equipment, materials, and shop supplies Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe Work alongside experienced welders, fabricators, and other shop team members Cross-train in different areas of production and manufacturing Take on additional responsibilities as your skills and knowledge develop What We're Looking For Successful candidates typically have: Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic A trustworthy and accountable approach to work Willingness and eagerness to learn Ability to take direction and accept feedback Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with their hands Safety-conscious work habits Ability to follow instructions and established procedures Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality Ability to work in an active manufacturing and shop environment Ability to work independently once trained Willingness to jump in and help the team where needed Respectful and professional attitude Ability to work well with different personalities Interest in developing new skills and taking on greater responsibility Preferred Qualifications Previous hands-on experience is a definite plus, particularly in: MIG welding TIG welding Metal fabrication Stainless steel fabrication Manufacturing or production Grinding, sanding, cutting, and material preparation Hand and power tools Plasma cutting Reading technical or assembly drawings Mechanical assembly Construction, automotive, maintenance, or other skilled trades Don't check every box?
