Overview Harbor Pines Veterinary Center is seeking a skilled and compassionate Veterinary Assistant to join our team. In this role, you'll work closely with our veterinarians to provide high-quality medical care to our patients, from routine wellness visits to complex surgical procedures. You'll play a key role in patient care — collecting histories, running in-house lab work, administering treatments and anesthesia, and prepping for surgery — while also serving as a trusted resource for our clients, helping them navigate preventative care, medications, and the products that keep their pets healthy. This is a great fit for someone who's hands-on, detail-oriented, and enjoys the mix of clinical work and client education that comes with veterinary nursing.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Obtain and record patient histories. Collect specimens and perform routine in-house laboratory procedures and tests. Administer fluids, medications, vaccines, and treatments as prescribed by the veterinarian. Administer and monitor anesthesia under the direction of a veterinarian. Provide specialized nursing care for injured or ill animals. Prepare patients, instruments, and equipment for surgery. Ensure monitoring and support equipment — such as anesthetic machines, cardiac monitors, scopes, and breathing apparatus — is in good working condition. Assist in diagnostic, medical, and surgical procedures using a range of high-tech diagnostic equipment, including digital radiographs and in-house laboratory equipment. Communicate with and educate pet owners. Maintain knowledge of preventative healthcare to answer client questions and educate owners on vaccines, flea and heartworm products, and other services their pet would benefit from, such as dental cleanings, senior wellness, spay/neuter, and boarding. Educate clients on products and medications sold, including dietary products, and answer questions regarding product purchase and use. Maintain inventory of pharmaceuticals, equipment, and supplies. Clean, maintain, and sterilize instruments, equipment, and materials. Qualifications Minimum 2 year of veterinary assistant
Pay:
$20.00 - $22.00 per hour
