Robin Post, RVT About Animal Fix Clinic Animal Fix Clinic (AFC) is a nonprofit veterinary surgery clinic in Pinole. We provide affordable spay/neuter and other surgical care for companion animals and community cats. We are a high-volume surgery clinic with a strong focus on anesthesia, pain management, patient monitoring, and Fear Free handling. We believe that affordable care does not have to mean substandard care. We are looking for an RVT or experienced Veterinary Assistant who enjoys surgery and anesthesia and wants to work in a busy surgical practice. The Role This is a hands-on surgical position with responsibility for patient care from admission through anesthesia, recovery, and discharge. Our technicians are encouraged to practice to the fullest extent of their training and abilities and are trusted to use their knowledge and judgment in patient care. In addition to high-volume spay/neuter, we accept referrals from other practices and ERs for urgent and more complicated surgeries that might otherwise be out of reach because of cost. Technicians get substantial anesthesia and surgical experience with both routine and complex cases. What You'll DoPatient Care & Safety

• Admit and discharge a diverse population of patients while maintaining patient, client, and team safety.
• Assess and document vital signs and patient needs.
• Monitor patients throughout anesthesia, surgery, and recovery.
• Recognize, prevent, and appropriately respond to anesthetic complications.
• Identify and respond to postoperative pain, discomfort, or dysphoria.
• Advocate for patient needs and communicate concerns to the veterinary team. Anesthesia & Surgery
• Participate in the induction, surgical preparation, monitoring, and recovery of surgical patients.
• Develop a working knowledge of anesthetic medications, pharmacology, and potential side effects.
• Work efficiently and safely in a high-volume surgical environment.
• Learn new anesthesia and surgical techniques and workflows. Fear Free & Patient Handling
• Use Fear Free techniques throughout patient handling to reduce stress, fear, and risk of injury.
• Adjust handling to the individual patient and situation.
• Provide attentive care during induction and recovery. Client Communication
• Communicate effectively with clients during admission and discharge.
• Provide clear preoperative and postoperative instructions. What We're Looking For
• Current RVT license or significant experience as a Veterinary Assistant.
• Approximately two years of veterinary experience preferred; experience may be negotiable based on skill set.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Clear verbal and written communication.
• Knowledge of veterinary workflows and procedures.
• Experience with or certification in Fear Free techniques is preferred.
• Strong interest in anesthesia and anesthetic patient care.
• Comfort working in a high-volume surgical environment.
• Willingness to learn and ask questions.
• For relief positions, availability for approximately 1-4 shifts per month.

Because we make these surgeries affordable, our technicians are able to utilize their skills on cases that might not make it to surgery elsewhere. That means a lot of anesthesia and experience with a wide range of surgical cases. Full-time staff work four 10-hour shifts per week, with no night shifts. Benefits
