• 24/hour, depending on experience and qualifications Work Schedule This is a part-time position with variable hours based on our surgical schedule and workload.

On most non-travel weekdays, work will generally take place sometime between approximately 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM. These hours represent a general scheduling window and do not mean that the employee will work from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM each day. A typical shift may be approximately 2-5 hours, depending on the amount of instrument processing, sterilization, packing, and preparation required. Flexibility is important. If the surgical team finishes earlier than expected, we may contact the employee to come in earlier in the afternoon or evening so the work can be completed sooner. Occasional early-morning hours may be required to assist with packing, loading, and preparing equipment and supplies for that day's surgeries. Occasional weekend availability may also be required depending on the surgical schedule and preparation needs. Approximately 0-2 days per week, depending on the surgical schedule, there may also be opportunities to travel with the mobile surgery team during daytime hours. There may be opportunities for additional hours when our primary RVT is on vacation, taking time off, or otherwise unavailable, including additional daytime and surgical-assistance hours. Because we are a mobile specialty surgical practice, the exact schedule will vary from week to week. We are looking for someone comfortable with variable part-time hours and scheduling flexibility rather than a fixed daily shift. Job Summary Golden State Veterinary Specialists is seeking a dependable, motivated, and highly organized Veterinary Assistant to join our specialty mobile surgery team. The primary focus of this position is surgical instrument processing, sterilization, equipment preparation, and mobile surgery logistics. On non-travel days, the Veterinary Assistant will generally work a 2-5 hour shift within the approximate 5:00 PM-10:00 PM window, depending on the workload. When the surgical team finishes earlier, the employee may be contacted to come in earlier to complete instrument processing, sterilization, packing, and preparation. Approximately 0-2 days per week, depending on the surgical schedule, the Veterinary Assistant may travel with our mobile surgery team during the daytime to partnering veterinary hospitals throughout Northern California. Following some travel days, the Veterinary Assistant may also assist with unloading equipment and completing necessary instrument cleaning, packing, sterilization, and preparation for upcoming procedures. Occasional early-morning and weekend hours may be required. Additional hours may also be available when our primary RVT is on vacation or otherwise unavailable. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in veterinary surgery who wants to gain hands-on experience working directly with an ACVS board-certified veterinary surgeon and a specialty mobile surgery team. Key ResponsibilitiesPrimary Instrument Processing & Preparation Responsibilities Clean, disinfect, inspect, pack, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments according to established veterinary and industry standards Properly operate and maintain sterilization equipment Organize surgical instruments and procedure-specific surgical packs Inspect instruments for cleanliness, function, damage, and appropriate preparation before sterilization Prepare instruments, implants, orthopedic equipment, and supplies for upcoming surgical procedures Load and unload surgical equipment, implants, instruments, and supplies into and from the company vehicle Maintain organization and cleanliness of surgical equipment and storage areas Assist with surgical inventory and restocking of supplies Identify low inventory and communicate supply needs to the surgical team Ensure necessary equipment, instrumentation, implants, and supplies are prepared for upcoming surgical procedures These responsibilities will generally be performed during variable 2-5 hour shifts within the approximate 5:00 PM-10:00 PM weekday window, although earlier hours may be scheduled when the surgical team finishes early. Occasional early-morning or weekend work may also be required based on surgical and preparation needs. Daytime Travel Responsibilities — Approximately 0-2 Days per Week On designated travel days, you may accompany the mobile surgery team to partnering veterinary hospitals.

Responsibilities may include:

Load, transport, and unload surgical equipment, implants, instruments, and supplies Assist with setting up and breaking down the mobile surgical service at partnering veterinary hospitals Prepare operating rooms, surgical tables, equipment, and instrumentation Assist with patient preparation, positioning, clipping, and surgical preparation as directed by the veterinarian or RVT Open sterile supplies and assist the surgical team while maintaining appropriate aseptic technique Assist with orthopedic, soft tissue, reconstructive, and oncologic surgical cases within the appropriate scope of a Veterinary Assistant Assist with patient transport and postoperative recovery as directed Help with radiographic positioning when appropriate and under appropriate supervision Clean and organize surgical equipment following procedures Maintain surgical equipment and inventory Assist with loading the company vehicle for return to our Rocklin/Roseville base Assist with unloading and end-of-day instrument processing and preparation as needed Communicate professionally with veterinarians, RVTs, Veterinary Assistants, and other hospital team members Schedule at a Glance Most routine instrument processing, sterilization, packing, and preparation will occur Monday through Friday during variable 2-5 hour shifts, generally sometime between approximately 5:00 PM and 10:00 PM. The 5:00-10:00 PM timeframe is a general availability window rather than a fixed five-hour shift. When the surgical team finishes earlier, the employee may be contacted to come in earlier and complete the necessary work.

Depending on the surgical schedule:

Approximately 0-2 daytime travel days per week may be available. Occasional early-morning hours may be required for packing, loading, and preparation before the surgical team leaves for the day. Occasional weekend work may be required. Additional hours may be available when the primary RVT is on vacation, taking time off, or otherwise unavailable. Some end-of-day unloading, instrument processing, sterilization, and preparation may be necessary following travel days. Because this is a mobile surgical service, flexibility in scheduling is important. There are no overnight shifts or overnight hospitalization responsibilities.
