Job Description

Assistant Animal Care Manager / Experienced Animal Care Professional Thyra's Sanctuary - Celebration, Florida Thyra's Sanctuary is a small nonprofit, lifetime-care sanctuary near Celebration/Disney. Our cats, parrots, and dogs are not adopted out; they remain with us for life. We need a reliable, detail-oriented animal-care professional who can help provide the skilled, consistent care they deserve. This is an immediate opening with the opportunity to move into an Animal Care Manager position for the right person.
PLEASE READ ENTIRE POST BEFORE APPLYING.
We are open seven days a week and need dependable coverage every day through noon. The primary need is for morning shifts, generally 8:00 a.m.-12:00 noon, with some flexibility for weekend and occasional additional coverage. Applicants must live reasonably close to Celebration, since dependable attendance and the ability to help when staffing changes are essential.
Responsibilities include:
Daily care, feeding, cleaning, laundry, and sanitation Administering oral and transdermal medications Blood-glucose checks and insulin administration Monitoring animals closely for changes in health or behavior Maintaining accurate treatment and care records Assisting with grooming, claw trims, and safe handling of cats, dogs, and parrots Subcutaneous-fluid administration is helpful, but not required Assisting with veterinary appointments and transport as needed The assistant-manager role requires helping supervise, schedule, and support staff. Veterinary assistant/technician, shelter, rescue, kennel, grooming, or substantial hands-on animal-care experience is strongly preferred. Experience with cats, diabetes, senior animals, chronic illness, and medication administration is especially valuable. This is not an entry-level "playing with animals" position. It is physically active, detail-oriented work requiring calm judgment, kindness, reliability, and the ability to work independently. Some lifting and navigating stairs required. We need someone who understands that sanctuary animals need skilled care every single day, including weekends. Pay is based on experience, generally beginning around $16-$17 per hour, with the possibility of advancement to Manager position. References and a background check are required. To apply, please send a résumé and briefly describe your animal-care or veterinary experience. Be specific as to your experience administrating meds and insulin. Also include your current home address or zip code. If there are any days you would not be available to work, include that info as well. Please include the word "animals" in your reply so we know you read the posting.
Pay:
$16.00 - $17.00 per hour Expected hours: 20.0 - 25.0 per week Application Question(s): Do you live in close proximity to the Disney/Celebration area? Does your resume include your current home address and current/past employer contact info?
