Full Time Veterinary Assistant
Job Description
We are a very busy, 1 doctor full service animal hospital seeking a full time assistant. Your main responsibilities will be in the exam rooms but must be willing to learn surgery and treatments.
Responsibilities:
- Assist veterinarians in providing medical care to animals
- Perform routine procedures such as vaccinations
- Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians
- Prepare animals for surgery and assist during surgical procedures
- Conduct laboratory tests and analyze samples
- Assist with x-rays
- Provide nursing care to hospitalized animals
- Educate pet owners on proper animal care and treatment plans
- Maintain accurate records of patient treatments and progress
Skills:
- Veterinary critical care: Ability to provide specialized care for critically ill or injured animals
- Aseptic technique: Understanding and practicing sterile techniques to prevent infection during medical procedures
- Animal restraint: Ability to safely restrain animals during examinations or procedures
- Animal handling: Experience in safely handling animals of different sizes and temperaments
- Pet care: Knowledge of general pet care including feeding, exercise, and basic hygiene practices
- Animal physiology: Understanding of the anatomy and physiological processes of different animal species Previous experience preferred.
