Job Description

WE ARE HIRING
Veterinary Assistant — Client Care & Phones Happier people wanted. Not "mandatory pizza party" happy, but people who value happiness — their own, their patients', and their clients'. The kind of happy that comes from working with good humans, helping pets, laughing through chaos, and ending the day feeling like your job mattered. Happy's Vet is a mobile + virtual veterinary practice with one goal: Make veterinary medicine happier. For pets. For clients. For the people working in it too. The job itself This position lives on the phones first. You are the voice of
Happy's Vet:
answering client calls, scheduling visits, taking deposits, passing messages to the right person, and following up until every client feels taken care of. Our clients are often stressed, sometimes grieving, occasionally confused — and they remember how we made them feel long after they forget what we said. When you're not on the phones, you'll be hands-on with patients: Assisting with veterinary examinations and procedures Helping with home health visits (nursing care, rechecks, treatments in the client's home) Riding along on some mobile visits to assist the doctor and technician No two days match, and that's the point.
We want people who:
Care about animals and the humans attached to them Speak plainly and warmly — five clear words beat twenty fancy ones, every time Say "I don't know — let me find out" like it's a strength, because here it is one Ask before assuming, and would rather check than guess Take feedback as a shortcut, not an insult, and love learning how a place does things before suggesting how it should Define teamwork better than saying "per my last email" Happily and effortlessly explain preventive medicine for the fifth time to the client's husband's great aunt, who thinks indoor pets don't need vaccines and just tuned in mid-appointment Can crack a joke when the kitten vaccine appointment turns into a sick visit for a gang of lethally-armed scaredy-(almost feral) cats and a "quick nail trim" for a 45-pound pug Sincerely believe we can improve vet med instead of just doom-scrolling about it Some days we are efficient and organized. Some days are a sitcom starring Murphy and his obnoxious law. That's vet med. But at Happy's Vet, we genuinely believe this field can be incrementally better each and every day. We are better than burnout, drama, and survival mode. You'll probably love it here if: You like kind people with functioning senses of humor You enjoy helping nervous pets and stressed humans feel safe You're comfortable being coached, corrected, and taught — and you speak up when you're overwhelmed instead of going quiet You don't mind driving, and sometimes getting stuck in traffic You want to be part of the ground floor of something great You can communicate like an adult, even when tired You like variety and are mentally flexible You want to grow professionally without losing your soul You probably won't love it here if: You think "that's not my job" every 14 minutes You thrive on gossip You hate feedback, change, or self-awareness You need to be the expert in every room You prefer mindlessly doing what you're told rather than thinking for yourself You are afraid to speak your mind You expect perfection from pets and other people You want a workplace where nobody tries to improve anything The practical bits Experience in a veterinary setting is a plus, but we will train the right human — especially for the phones, our systems, and our way of doing visits Comfortable handling dogs and cats, including frightened ones (we'll teach you our low-stress approach) Valid driver's license and reliable transportation — we're a mobile practice; the road is part of the job Able to be on the phone for much of the day and to keep clear, accurate notes Licensed and unlicensed candidates both welcome We are not looking for perfect people. We are all imperfect — just like our beloved profession. We are looking for good humans who care, try hard, stay curious, and have a passion for making a difference. And if this isn't your dream job but you know someone who might — refer them! If we hire them, you get a $500 referral bonus. Come help us Make Veterinary Medicine a Happier Place!
