Job Overview Join our equine veterinary team as a Veterinary Assistant and become a vital part of providing exceptional horse care for our family business. In this role, you will support our veterinarian by assisting with medical procedures, horse handling, and client communication. Responsibilities Assist with medical procedures, including jogging for lameness exams. Stall cleaning for in-house appointments Support veterinary care by preparing equipment, monitoring patients, and assisting during exams and emergencies. Perform equine restraint and handling to facilitate examinations and treatments safely. Maintain knowledge of animal anatomy and veterinary terminology to accurately support clinical procedures. Operate veterinary software for record-keeping, appointment scheduling, and inventory management. Support laboratory testing processes in compliance with USDA regulations and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) guidelines. Assist with surgical procedures by preparing instruments, maintaining aseptic technique, and supporting post-operative care. Communicate effectively with clients regarding equine care instructions, treatment plans, and follow-up appointments. Maintain a clean and organized vet truck and exam room for procedures. Qualifications Prior experience in veterinary clinics or animal handling environments is highly preferred. Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal restraint techniques, and aseptic procedures. Experience with equine care is a plus. Familiarity with veterinary software systems such as Cassadol is desirable. Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly with clients and team members. Ability to perform physical tasks including jogging, standing for extended periods, and ability to lift up to 50lbs to carry and load/unload veterinary diagnostic equipment. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for documentation purposes. Certification or training in animal husbandry, laboratory techniques, or pet training is advantageous but not required. Current clinic haul-in locations include Danville, IL and Farmer City, IL with possible daily travel up to 1hr from each location for barn visits. Current part time position being offered does have the possibility of turning into full time with benefits for the right candidate.
