We are looking for an enthusiastic, people-oriented professional who thrives in a collaborative environment. While 2+ years of experience is preferred, we are glad to train highly motivated, fast-learning candidates who are passionate about veterinary care. Located just 1.5 miles west of Johnson County Community College, our practice features 8 doctors and a supportive, high-energy staff dedicated to top-tier client and patient care. Because we do not offer boarding or grooming and refer overnight emergencies to local clinics, our team enjoys structured daytime hours and consistent schedules. Our new veterinary assistant will need to demonstrate a good work ethic, be personable and likable, learn quickly, and be gentle with animals and humans alike. Dependability and reliability are keys to success in this critical position. A typical day as a veterinary assistant would include the following: Interacting and working well with co workers as this is a team driven environment. Interacting with the clients in a genuine and positive manner. Checking clients into exam rooms and getting patient history using computer system (Avimark). Taking and processing payment for services/products. Getting supplies ready for appointments and procedures. Utilizing Avimark to access schedules, client charts, and document all client and patient information. Meeting the physical demands of this job. It requires a lot of strength and endurance. This job is
EXTREMELY
physically demanding. Gentle restraint and handling of cats and dogs - some who may be aggressive, rambunctious, or extremely large. Working around anesthetic gasses and assisting with radiographs. Accurately filling products/medications and educating clients how to use properly. Stocking, unboxing/receiving daily shipments, and checking inventory. Assisting with surgical preparation of patients, cleaning, packing, and autoclaving surgical packs. Assist doctors and technicians with procedures, x-rays, setting up/running lab work, and surgical preparation. There will be a lot of lab work utilizing the various machines! Working with and cleaning up body fluids - urine, feces, blood, vomit, anals. Ability to lift 40 pounds without assistance; over 50 pounds will be assisted with another person. Being on your feet the entire duration of the shift. This is not a position where you will be sitting. Medicating dogs and cats, walking dogs, and occasionally giving baths. This position involves a lot of cleaning. This includes general cleaning of the hospital and exam rooms, trash, laundry, and cleaning cages/runs.
Applicant must also:
Arrive to work on time, every time - tardiness will not be tolerated. Be able to work your schedule consistently . You are in a critical position, calling out frequently is not possible for this position. Work well with and get along with fellow assistants, technicians, doctors, and receptionists. No drama. Positive attitudes only. Take constructive criticism with an open mind and a smile. Be willing to occasionally stay after hours if needed to finish with a client. Be able to speak with clients in person and on the phone intelligently, effectively, and politely using proper grammar. Take direction well and work independently as required. This is a long term, permanent position and does NOT have the flexibility to change each semester.
Important Hiring Requirements:
Screenings:
All prospective employees must pass a standard background check and drug test prior to hire.
THC Policy:
Our drug screening includes testing for marijuana/THC in all forms, including cannabis gummies and edibles. A passing result on both screenings is required for employment.
Ongoing Testing:
Employees are subject to random drug testing during their time with our practice.
Schedule:

Pay starts at $18.00/hour for experienced assistants and scales up based on your individual skills and qualifications.
