Position Summary The Veterinary Assistant supports the veterinary and technical team by providing direct patient care, restraint, and general clinical support before, during, and after surgical procedures. This role helps ensure a smooth, safe, and efficient patient experience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Safely restrain animals for examinations, treatments, and surgical preparation Prepare surgical suites, treatment areas, and instruments for procedures Assist technicians and veterinarians during exams, procedures, and recovery monitoring Monitor recovering patients and alert clinical staff to any concerns Clean, disinfect, and restock kennels, exam rooms, and surgical areas Administer routine medications and treatments as directed by a veterinarian or technician Walk, feed, and provide basic care for hospitalized patients Maintain accurate patient records and update charts as directed Assist with client communication regarding drop-off, pick-up, and basic care instructions Qualifications and Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required Veterinary assistant certificate or prior veterinary/animal care experience preferred, but not required Comfort and confidence handling animals of varying temperaments Strong attention to detail and ability to follow clinical protocols Reliable, team-oriented, and able to stay calm under pressure Physical Requirements and Work Environment Ability to lift animals on your own up to 40lbs, and lift and restrain heavier animals, with assistance as needed Ability to stand, bend, and move throughout the workday in a clinical setting Exposure to animal bites, scratches, zoonotic disease, and cleaning chemicals (with appropriate PPE) Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with variable daily demands
Compensation Pay Range:
$18.00-$23.00 per hour, commensurate with experience

Discretionary Bonus:
Based on SASS financial results, we may pay a discretionary bonus. This bonus is at the sole discretion of SASS and takes into account the overall performance, attitude and willingness to work extra hours, and overall nature and character of the employee within SASS.
- Vacation / Sick Time (PTO - Paid time off): 11 days of PTO during the calendar year. Upon completion of your 3rd year, you will be entitled to an additional 2 days of vacation. Additional vacation days after 3 years will be determined.
