Job Description

Nutley Animal Hospital is currently seeking applicants for full time Veterinary Assistant with an opportunity to train for the following responsibilities. Our ideal candidate is a self-starter, punctual and hard working, people person and a team player. Resposibilities include recording observations on patients. Knowledge of proper use of all surgical equipment. Assist doctors in medical, surgical and dental procedures, prepare patients for surgery (clipping/cleaning surgical site) assists doctor in administering anesthesia, monitoring patient during and after surgery, and administering fluids. Gives injections (SQ, IM, IV) and oral medications. Can perform emergency procedures such as control bleeding, resuscitation with oxygen, opening airways and external cardiac massage. Assists in restraining pets. Performs clinical laboratory procedures. Able to perform venipuncture on all sites (cat & dog). Perform rountine dental ATP's (chart, probe, x-ray, scale and polish). Take digital radiographs. Can admit and discharge patients on doctor's orders and councel clients on vaious aspects of animal care. Understands usage and dosage for prescription drugs and can readily explain them to the clients. Properly cleans all surgical materials after use, keeps operating room properly stocked and prepared for surgery. Proper packaging and sterilization of surgical instruments and equipment. The position is full time Monday-Saturday with one day off during the week and one Saturday off per month (we are only open from 8am-12pm on Saturdays). Salary will be based on experience. High school or equivalent (Preferred)
Experience:
Veterinary technician: 2 years (Required)
