Job Description

Overview In this position, you will have the opportunity to work closely with animals, contribute to their care, and make a positive impact on the animal community in Espanola and Rio Arriba County. Espanola Humane's mission is to improve the lives of animals in the underserved communities. As a Vet Technician Assistant, you will assist our Clinic staff in achieving this mission. As a Veterinary technician assistant, you must have a basic knowledge of veterinary medicine and safe animal handling skills. You will work with Veterinarians, Vet Technicians, the front desk staff as well as other team members and the public. Every team member contributes to the professional reputation of the practice and is expected to exhibit core competencies and qualities expected of a professional. On the job training will be offered for candidates who demonstrate a basic understanding of the skills required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assisting with patient exams Running diagnostics Filling prescriptions Follow safe animal handling techniques. Learn and follow the correct procedures to clean and sterilize kennels, surgical tools and all surfaces of the clinic. Possess sufficient strength and to lift and restrain patients to ensure the safety of fellow employees and the public. Maintain the cleanliness of the clinic while before, during and after surgery. Check kennels hourly to ensure they are clean and remove any feces or urine so the patients can remain clean, and odors are addressed quickly. Maintain exam rooms Monitor all patients and notify the appropriate staff if they are: breathing slowly, seem lethargic, blood is noted in the kennel or on their bedding, as well as any other signs of illness or change in behavior. Wash dry and store bedding and towels in the laundry area. Follow the procedure of gowning and gloving when handling pets under 6 months or if the pet has symptoms of illness. Before leaving for the day check in with all your fellow employees to ensure there is nothing else that needs to be taken care of. Assist in recovery as instructed by your fellow employees. This position performs in accordance with the organization's expectations for animal care, teamwork, and interpersonal relations, and actively contributes to improving service delivery, communication, and consistency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma Animal handling skills (animal welfare, grooming salons, boarding kennels) Communication skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in a high-volume spay and neuter clinic is preferred. Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks depending on needs Good organizational skills Technical know-how in areas such as disinfection, administering medication, and using diagnostic equipment Computer skills to maintain medical records about animals in veterinary software Ability to track and maintain inventory in all areas of the Clinic.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS
Ability to comfortably interact with animals, including wildlife. Ability to restrain animals in a safe and appropriate manner. Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds. Ability to clean kennels and cages, and deal with offensive odors. Able to be exposed to cleaning chemicals and their strong odors. Ability to perform all aspects of job duties independently Ability to use a computer and other standard office equipment. Pay:
$18.00 - $25.00 per hour Expected hours: 30.0 - 40.0 per week
