Description:
The Veterinarian Technician is a position that is primarily responsible for assisting the Ohio State Racing Commission Veterinarian with the testing and post-race care of the horses at Northfield Park. They must have a strong work ethic, dedication to Northfield Park and a commitment to the racing industry. Schedule In this role, you will work part-time, primarily during evenings and weekends, with typical hours from approximately 6:00 p.m. to midnight on race nights Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assisting with blood draws on assigned horses, labeling blood tubes and filling out appropriate paperwork. Obtaining urine samples for testing purposes using sterile methods and techniques including whistling, walking and/or applying a muzzle and blinkers. Packaging samples with sterile techniques per the OSRC's standards. Clean and prep the working stalls in the State Barn Must be comfortable with working with horses and their various personalities.
Requirements:
Performs other job-related duties as requested Proof of eligibility to work in the United States Required Qualifications Experience with horses is preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, executives, managers and horsemen. Ability to maintain a calm, composed presence in an often-challenging environment where multiple tasks and events may occur simultaneously. Must be able to obtain an Ohio State Racing Commission license. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements On-site training is provided Flexible working schedule, which includes nights and weekends Occasionally required to stand, walk and sit throughout the shift Must be able to lift 40 pounds Requires frequent wrist and hand use.
