Job Description

Help us build the kind of ER you want to work in. Carolina Veterinary Critical Care is growing—and with our move into our brand-new emergency and critical care hospital, we're building more than a new facility. We're building a team and culture where skilled veterinary professionals are respected, supported, challenged, and given the opportunity to make a real impact. We are looking for an experienced ER/ICU Veterinary Technician to join our team specifically for an evening/night swing shift. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys the pace and variety of emergency medicine, but also wants a schedule that bridges the busy evening hours with the overnight team. What does the swing shift look like? You'll be an important part of the transition between our evening and overnight teams. You'll help manage the busy evening ER, support hospitalized and critical patients, assist with procedures and emergencies, and help ensure a smooth handoff to the overnight crew. This is not a position where you are simply waiting for the next shift to arrive. You will be an integral part of patient care and hospital flow.
Typical responsibilities may include:
Emergency and critical care nursing Triage and initial patient assessment Monitoring hospitalized and critical patients Managing multiple patients and changing priorities Anesthesia monitoring and recovery Blood transfusions and blood product administration Placement and management of IV catheters Fluid therapy and CRIs Oxygen therapy and critical patient support Assisting with emergency procedures and surgery Medication preparation and administration Laboratory diagnostics and sample processing Pain assessment and management Client communication and patient updates Maintaining accurate medical records and treatment sheets Supporting efficient patient flow during high-volume periods Thorough communication and handoff with the overnight team Maintaining a clean, stocked, and organized treatment area The ideal candidate: Has previous ER, ICU, specialty, or high-acuity veterinary experience Is comfortable caring for unstable and critical patients Can recognize changes in patient condition and communicate concerns quickly Is confident with emergency procedures and critical care nursing Can prioritize multiple patients in a fast-paced environment Communicates clearly with doctors and fellow technicians Takes ownership of their patients and responsibilities Understands the importance of detailed documentation and accurate treatments Is dependable and comfortable working evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled Wants to continue learning and developing their emergency medicine skills Is a team player who genuinely cares about the people they work alongside LVTs are strongly encouraged to apply, but we also welcome experienced veterinary assistants who are looking to continue growing in emergency and critical care. Why CVCC? We know emergency medicine can be demanding. We also believe that burnout shouldn't be treated as an unavoidable part of the job. Our goal is to build a hospital where technicians are supported, respected, heard, and appropriately utilized. We are intentionally building our team around: Strong technician-to-patient support Skilled staffing rather than simply adding more bodies Continued training and professional development Clear roles and expectations A collaborative relationship between doctors, technicians, and support staff A workplace where your experience and clinical judgment matter Opportunities to help shape the way our new hospital operates We're a growing emergency and critical care practice, which means you have the opportunity to help shape what this team becomes. You won't just be walking into an established system and being told, "This is how we've always done it." We're building it with our team. ———————————————— Evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday availability is required. If you are an experienced veterinary assistant, RVT or LVT who thrives in emergency medicine, enjoys working with critical patients, and wants to be part of building something new in the Lowcountry, we want to meet you. Come help us build the ER you've always wanted to work in.
