A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of six (6) months of experience in an animal care environment involving care, handling, and sheltering of animals or the performance of related work, and a High School diploma or GED.

• Certification as a Registered Veterinary Technician.

• Certification in the euthanasia of animals by injection.
