Job Description

The Atlantic Veterinary Clinic in Davenport Florida is looking for a professional, dependable, experienced, outgoing person to join our team in a veterinary technician position. The clinic is located in central Florida near the theme parks, and about 1-2 hours from either coast. Drug testing and Background Check are required as part of this position. You are expected to work with animals in a hands on position. Some of the duties required are listed below. Job Duties expected of Veterinary Technicians and Assistants An employee in this position must have a sense of caring for animals, be able to lift approximately 50 pounds, walk dogs of up to 130 pounds, work on feet all day, and read and understand English. They must demonstrate a good sense of ethics and understanding of the business. Comfort in working with animals is required. Essential Functions of Veterinary Assistants Provide compassionate care for pets Properly and safely restrain pets for veterinarians and other technicians Assist in the taking of radiographs Demonstrate knowledge of reading records and following protocols established by the clinic Monitor and collect urine and fecal samples as needed Monitor, record, and report physical signs of hospitalized/boarded pets Clean cages, runs, boarding area and/or hospital facilities, including exam rooms, treatment room, exotics and isolation area, employee lounge, bathrooms and doctor's office Maintain reception area in a neat and sanitary condition Follow a provided job list, understanding that this list may not contain all duties required. Provide clean bedding, water and litter pans for pets Feed hospitalized/boarded pets as needed Exercise hospitalized/boarded dogs as needed Take incoming pets to appropriate areas Bathe pets and prepare pets for dismissal Retrieve pets that are being discharged Re-stocking as required Bring retail food to reception area Re-stock reception area shelves Do laundry Wash and sanitize pet dishes Perform other duties as assigned Essential functions of
Veterinary Technicians:
  • Review vaccination records and prepare vaccines according to clinic protocol
  • Assist veterinarian in medical procedures using proper restraint; know how to restrain fractious patients
  • Assist veterinarian in surgical procedures using proper aseptic technique
  • Maintain and use medical equipment such as blood machines, microscopes and autoclave
  • Perform routine laboratory procedures and analyses in hematology, microbiology, urinalysis, and serology
  • Prepare samples for outside laboratory analysis
  • Monitor patients under anesthesia
  • Induce anesthesia and intubate patient
  • Administer treatments and injections following the instructions of a doctor
  • Understand how to read and create a hospitalization form
  • Initiate emergency procedures
  • Maintain pharmacy records, and controlled drug, anesthesia, and other required logs
  • Take radiographs
  • Acquire vital signs of animals including temperature, pulse, and respiration
  • Perform dental cleanings
  • Perform and analyze skin and ear cytology
  • Perform catheterization
  • urinary and venous
  • Complete ear cleanings and nail trims
  • Perform other duties as assigned CVTs play an important role in providing exceptional patient care, including: Patient intake and comprehensive history collection Obtaining and recording TPRs and patient vitals Venipuncture and catheter placement Laboratory sample collection and diagnostics Radiology and diagnostic imaging assistance Anesthesia monitoring and surgical support Dental procedures and dental radiography Medication preparation and administration Patient treatment and nursing care Client education Maintaining accurate medical records Assisting with exotic patient care Supporting doctors and the veterinary team throughout appointments and procedures
Certified:
CVT/LVT/RVT
graduated from an accredited veterinary technology training program and has successfully completed the Florida examinations required by the state Veterinary Experience of a minimum of 1 year is required for this position. If you have no provable veterinary experience then you will not be considered and your resume will be bypassed. A valid negative Drug test is required before hiring.
