JOB SUMMARY
The Veterinary Technology Program at St. Petersburg College seeks a highly qualified, experienced veterinary professional to serve as a full-time faculty member in the campus-based Veterinary Technology program. This position combines classroom and laboratory instruction, student advising and mentoring, clinical education, and Clinical Coordinator responsibilities . The successful candidate will bring current, hands-on veterinary clinical experience and a strong commitment to preparing students for professional practice as credentialed veterinary technicians. The faculty member will participate in curriculum development, assessment, accreditation activities, clinical-site coordination, student success initiatives, and program service Previous teaching experience in veterinary technology, veterinary nursing, veterinary medicine. Experience supervising veterinary technology/veterinary nursing students in clinical settings. Experience with clinical education, clinical-site management, or experiential learning. Experience with curriculum development, student assessment, or accreditation. Experience working with veterinary technology students preparing for the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE). Experience in multiple areas of veterinary practice. Familiarity with
AVMA CVTEA
accreditation standards and veterinary technology/nursing education. Primary Responsibilities Teaching and Instruction The faculty member will: Teach assigned veterinary technology courses in classroom, laboratory, and clinical instructional environments . Provide instruction in accordance with approved course and program outcomes, curriculum, and institutional policies. Develop and deliver engaging, student-centered learning experiences that integrate theoretical knowledge with practical veterinary skills. Provide hands-on laboratory instruction and competency-based skills assessment. Demonstrate appropriate veterinary procedures, equipment use, patient care, restraint, anesthesia, laboratory techniques, diagnostic procedures, and other technical skills within the faculty member's area of expertise. Supervise students during laboratory activities involving live animals, models, simulation, and other instructional resources. Assess student learning through examinations, laboratory practicals, skills assessments, assignments, and other approved assessment methods. Provide timely, meaningful feedback and maintain accurate student records. Maintain regular communication with students regarding course expectations, academic progress, and professional development. Incorporate current veterinary medicine practices, evidence-based information, technology, and professional standards into instruction. Participate in course, curriculum, and program assessment and continuous improvement activities. Maintain current knowledge and clinical competence through continuing education and ongoing professional practice. Clinical Coordinator Responsibilities As part of the faculty assignment, the faculty member will serve as a Clinical Coordinator for the Veterinary Technology Program and will: Coordinate and monitor the program's clinical education and experiential learning activities. Develop, maintain, and evaluate relationships with veterinary hospitals, clinics, shelters, farms, laboratories, specialty practices, and other approved clinical education sites. Recruit and evaluate potential clinical affiliation sites in accordance with program and accreditation requirements. Maintain communication with clinical-site personnel, including veterinarians, credentialed veterinary technicians, practice managers, and designated clinical mentors. Coordinate clinical affiliation agreements and required site documentation in collaboration with appropriate college personnel. Verify that clinical sites meet program, institutional, and accreditation requirements before students are placed. Coordinate student clinical placements and assist students in identifying appropriate clinical experiences. Monitor student progress and completion of required clinical competencies and hours. Communicate with students and clinical-site mentors regarding expectations, required documentation, clinical performance, and concerns. Facilitate resolution of student or clinical-site concerns and escalate issues when appropriate. Conduct or coordinate clinical-site evaluations and maintain documentation of site performance. Monitor clinical-site capacity and identify opportunities to expand clinical placement options. Maintain accurate clinical-site records, affiliation agreements, evaluations, student placement information, and other required documentation. Collaborate with faculty to ensure consistency in clinical expectations, competency assessment, and student preparation. Participate in the development and continuous improvement of clinical education policies, procedures, forms, and resources. Support preparation for program reviews and accreditation activities related to clinical education. Maintain regular communication with the Program Director regarding clinical-site needs, student concerns, placement capacity, and clinical education outcomes. Professional and Institutional Responsibilities Maintain current clinical knowledge and professional competence through continuing education and appropriate veterinary practice. Maintain required professional credentials and certifications. Participate in professional organizations and activities relevant to veterinary technology/veterinary nursing education and practice. Follow all college policies, procedures, safety requirements, and applicable laws and regulations. Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, institutional committees, and other assigned college activities. Perform other duties related to the faculty position and program as assigned. Position Emphasis This position is intentionally designed as a combined faculty and clinical coordination role. The faculty members will have primary responsibility for teaching and student learning while also providing leadership and coordination for the program's clinical partnership network.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Master's degree related to teaching discipline; three (3) years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Preferred qualifications Credentialed veterinary technician with current credentialing/licensure/registration in good standing and a master's degree , OR Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree. Current, relevant clinical experience in veterinary medicine is required. Demonstrated experience in a veterinary clinical practice, hospital, specialty practice, emergency practice, laboratory, shelter, large-animal practice, or other relevant veterinary setting. Ability to obtain and maintain any credentials necessary to participate in veterinary clinical and laboratory instruction. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, veterinarians, veterinary technicians, clinical partners, and other stakeholders.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
