Job Description

The Fredericksburg Veterinary Clinic is looking to hire a Registered Veterinary Technician. We are a rural mixed animal practice located in Fredericksburg, Iowa. We are approximately 45 minutes from Decorah and Waterloo/Cedar Falls. We currently see 65% small animal, 15% beef, 10% equine and 10% small ruminants and other animals. Our technicians work four 10-hour days and alternate weekends. We offer a competitive salary, paid time off, Simple IRA, employee discounts and prove uniforms (scrubs). Please contact Dr. Karla Juhl, Fredericksburg Veterinary Clinic, at (319) 269-9295 or fredericksburgvet@gmail.com Responsibilities Prepare animals for examinations and procedures by performing animal restraint and handling with confidence and care Assist veterinarians during surgeries, diagnostic procedures, and emergency interventions using medical equipment and aseptic techniques Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments accurately following veterinary protocols Collect blood samples, perform phlebotomy, insert IV catheters, and monitor anesthesia during surgical procedures with veterinary anesthesia monitoring skills Conduct laboratory work such as diagnostic tests, radiology diagnostics including X-ray imaging, and analyze results to support diagnoses Support pet owners through effective communication about pet care instructions, treatment plans, and post-procedure care Qualifications Proven kennel experience along with animal husbandry skills for diverse species including dogs, cats, and equines Strong knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and emergency medicine practices Hands-on experience with dental terminology, pet grooming, dog training, and animal restraint techniques Familiarity with laboratory procedures such as phlebotomy and diagnostic radiology equipment operation including X-ray machines Experience with critical & intensive care procedures and veterinary surgical assistance is highly desirable Ability to handle animals safely using proper restraint techniques while demonstrating excellent animal handling skills Competence in administering medications via various routes (oral, IV) and monitoring general anesthesia during procedures Expected hours: 20.0 - 40.0 per week
