Job Description

Header Overview New England Animal Hospital is looking for a Veterinary Technician to join our team! This role offers the opportunity to work alongside skilled veterinarians in a professional and compassionate environment dedicated to providing exceptional veterinary services. As a member of our team, you will perform a variety of clinical and technical duties that ensure the highest standards of animal health and client satisfaction. Students currently enrolled in a veterinary programs are also urged to apply. Duties Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures, ensuring smooth and efficient operations. Prepare animals for procedures by performing animal restraint, handling, and sedation as needed, utilizing your knowledge of animal physiology and anatomy. Conduct laboratory work including blood draws, urinalysis, fecal exams, and other diagnostic tests using veterinary laboratory equipment. Operate diagnostic radiology equipment to capture X-ray images; assist with radiology diagnostics and interpret basic results under supervision. Monitor anesthesia during surgical procedures, ensuring patient safety through veterinary anesthesia monitoring and managing general anesthesia protocols. Insert IV catheters and perform vascular access techniques for medication administration and fluid therapy in various species including dogs, cats, and equines. Maintain aseptic techniques during surgical procedures to prevent infections; assist with veterinary surgical procedures as needed. Manage pet care routines such as grooming, feeding, pet grooming, and kennel duties to promote animal comfort and well-being. Support emergency medicine cases by providing critical & intensive care, medication administration, and assisting with veterinary emergency care protocols. Document all procedures accurately using veterinary software; communicate effectively with clients regarding pet health status and treatment plans. Skills Understanding of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and medical procedures. Hands-on experience with dental terminology; capable of assisting with dental cleanings and related procedures. Familiarity with laboratory techniques such as phlebotomy (blood draws) and diagnostic testing methods. Experience in anesthesiology including general anesthesia management for surgeries or diagnostic imaging. Skilled in dog handling, animal restraint techniques, pet grooming, and pet care routines. Ability to operate medical equipment such as radiology machines, laboratory analyzers, anesthesia monitors, and X-ray units efficiently. Knowledge of veterinary critical care practices including emergency protocols and intensive patient monitoring. Excellent client communication skills to explain procedures clearly and provide compassionate pet care advice. Competence in using veterinary software systems for record keeping, appointment scheduling, and treatment documentation. $22.00 - $28.00 per hour
