Overview Bay Valley Animal Hospital is seeking an experienced Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) with strong surgical and anesthesia experience to join our growing team. We are looking for a confident, compassionate technician who is comfortable taking an active role in surgery, anesthesia monitoring, dentistry, diagnostics, and day-to-day patient care. The ideal candidate has a solid clinical foundation, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently while maintaining a high standard of patient safety and care. Our LVTs are an essential part of the medical team and work closely with our veterinarians, assistants, and fellow technicians throughout the day. Key Responsibilities Monitor anesthesia and provide hands-on support throughout surgical and dental procedures Place IV catheters and manage IV fluid therapy Calculate, prepare, and administer medications as directed by the veterinarian Intubate patients and monitor anesthetic depth, vital signs, pain control, and recovery Maintain accurate anesthesia and surgical monitoring records Prepare patients, surgical suites, instruments, and equipment for procedures Perform dental prophylaxis and assist with dental radiographs and dental procedures Collect blood, urine, and other diagnostic samples Perform in-house laboratory testing and assist with diagnostic imaging Obtain radiographs safely and efficiently Provide nursing care to hospitalized, surgical, and recovering patients Communicate patient updates and concerns clearly with veterinarians and the medical team Maintain accurate and thorough medical records Educate clients regarding medications, home care, treatments, and follow-up instructions Help maintain surgical, treatment, and laboratory equipment Support and mentor veterinary assistants and less-experienced team members when appropriate Contribute to a positive, efficient, and collaborative hospital environment Skills & Qualifications Current Michigan Licensed Veterinary Technician credential, or eligibility for Michigan licensure Previous experience working as an LVT in a veterinary hospital Strong surgical and anesthesia experience Comfortable with anesthesia induction, intubation, monitoring, recovery, and troubleshooting Strong venipuncture and IV catheter placement skills Experience with dentistry and dental radiography preferred Strong knowledge of patient monitoring, pain management, and nursing care Ability to recognize changes in patient condition and communicate concerns promptly Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety Ability to prioritize and multitask in a busy hospital environment Excellent communication and teamwork skills Compassionate and professional demeanor with clients, patients, and coworkers Dependable, organized, and confident working both independently and as part of a team Willingness to continue learning and contribute to a supportive team culture Benefits & Perks We believe that when our team is supported, our patients receive the best care.
