Job Description

The Glacial Ridge Veterinary Clinic is an integrative small animal and equine practice located in Glenwood, MN (central MN). We are currently looking for a Full Time Licensed Veterinary Technician. We need an individual who is skilled in the lab, surgery, anesthesia, exam room, and with client communication. Applicants must be self-motivated, gentle, intelligent, kind, open to holistic medicine and be able to efficiently move through a busy schedule. Responsibilities Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures, ensuring all protocols are followed with precision. Perform animal restraint and handling using proper techniques to ensure safety for pets and staff. Conduct laboratory work including blood draws, urinalysis, and other diagnostic tests utilizing veterinary laboratory equipment. Administer medications, vaccines, and treatments accurately following veterinary instructions. Monitor anesthesia during surgical procedures, including IV insertion, anesthesia monitoring, and recovery oversight. Prepare animals for surgery through proper aseptic techniques and assist with surgical procedures as needed. Operate diagnostic radiology equipment such as X-ray machines to produce clear images for diagnosis. Maintain detailed medical records using veterinary software, documenting treatments, observations, and client communications. Assist pet owners with pet care advice, post-operative instructions, and answer questions about animal health and behavior. Support emergency medicine cases by providing critical care and assisting in intensive care units when necessary. Ensure cleanliness of medical equipment and treatment areas while adhering to infection control protocols. Handle a variety of animals including dogs, cats, equines (horses), and other small animals with professionalism and compassion. Experience Previous experience working as a Veterinary Technician or in a veterinary setting is required; experience with critical care or emergency medicine is highly valued. Familiarity with veterinary terminology, animal physiology, anatomy, and restraint techniques is essential. Hands-on experience with laboratory procedures such as phlebotomy (blood collection), diagnostic testing, and radiology diagnostics is preferred. Knowledge of anesthesia administration and monitoring—including general anesthesia—is necessary for surgical assistance roles. Experience with veterinary software systems for record keeping and scheduling enhances efficiency. Skills in dog handling, pet training, animal husbandry, and animal restraint contribute to providing comprehensive pet care. Ability to perform IV insertion, vascular access procedures, animal catheterization, and medication administration confidently. Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients about pet health concerns and treatment plans are vital.
