Position Summary:

Provides front-line animal care and assists other team members in the responsible, compassionate, safe, and humane treatment of shelter animals while upholding highest standards of care.

Position reports to:

Healthcare Manager Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Administers medication and vaccines prescribed by Veterinarian. Examines animals during intake, as needed to detect diseases, injuries or other health issues. Determines animals that need quarantined for health care issues during intake. Determines which animals need medications, specialized diets, or treatment by a veterinarian. Observe animal behavior and/or health condition and report to Vet. Assist with animal emergencies. Maintains accurate animals and shelter records and logs as required to ensure accurate and timely information is current and available. Treats animals humanely, with compassion and concern both on and off the job and transmits these values to others in the course of day-to-day work. Assists in establishing and maintaining approved standards of care for animals. Works collaboratively with staff to achieve completion of daily work assignments following proper shelter protocols. Provides routine care to animals such as feeding, grooming, weighing, bathing, cleaning cages and basic care for animals. Soothe upset or frightened animals. Maintains regular, timely attendance and provides on-call support to respond to shelter emergencies on an as needed basis. Qualifications:

Completion of a Veterinary Technician program required. Must be a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) in the state of Ohio. One or more years comparable animal healthcare experience required. Prior administrative experience is a plus. Must have a patient, caring work ethic. Must be able to follow instructions and established procedures. Must be highly organized, able to multi-task and problem-solve. Must have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work cooperatively with coworkers, volunteers, business partners and/or the public. Must have ability to adapt to changing organizational requirements, including ability to work additional hours/day as needed. Computer skills required. Must have valid Ohio Driver's license and insurance. Essential Physical Demands and Working Environment This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit; talk, hear, lift, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, keyboard and telephone. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work. Moderate lifting is required, up to 50 pounds. Regular, predictable attendance is required. Moderate noise (i.e. business office, phone, printers, and animals). Ability to work in a confined area. Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time. Work environment is stressful at times. Irregular hours, including evening and weekend are a normal part of the job. Ability to work in close proximity to animals. Pay:

$18.00 - $22.00 per hour Expected hours: 25.0 - 30.0 per week
