Job Description

Job Title:
Animal Care Technician Department:
Animal Care Classification:
Part-time, non-exempt
Job Relationship:
Reports to Animal Care Supervisors. Works closely with volunteers and other staff members.
Beginning Wage:
$12.50/hr. - Raise after 90-day probation Hours per week: 28 to 35 hours
Schedule:
Sunday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 or 2:00 p.m. (Two days to three off per week), two to three evenings per week from 5:00 or 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 or 7:30 p.m. Purrks (Benefits): One week PTO after 90-day probation, two weeks PTO after one year, At-Cost Veterinary Care for Personal Pets, Retirement Plan after one year, and many sandpaper kisses and wagging tails.
Position Summary:
Responsible for daily cleaning and sanitation of the facility, including animal enclosures and public areas, feeding, care, and daily enrichment of the animals.
Essential Job Functions :
Provides optimal standard of care to all animals under the care of the Fayette Regional Humane Society Performs daily cleaning and sanitizing of all kennels, cages, and public areas; follows cleaning and disease control protocols to ensure a safe, healthy environment Provides daily socialization, play, walks, toys, and mental stimulation to reduce stress and improve adoptability Supports feeding, as directed Supports surgical procedures, post-operative care and recovery monitoring Animal laundry and dishes throughout the day Stocks areas and cleans animal enclosures and public areas throughout the day Promptly moves animals (adoption, isolation, quarantine, etc.) as instructed Keeps the supervisor informed of animal behavior, health, or other concerns Maintains cleaning equipment, tools, and appliances Follows all safety guidelines to ensure a safe work environment for staff and a living environment for animals Takes immediate action to address any safety concern or noncompliance of safety rules that could put an employee, volunteer, client, animal, or the organization at risk Provides professional client and volunteer care Represents the Fayette Regional Humane Society professionally and courteously at all times. Provides quality service to clients, volunteers, and staff, recognizing their individual contributions to the success of our organization Promotes the integration and utilization of volunteers Supports the adoption team through excellent customer service Actively promotes the Fayette Regional Humane Society programs and events to clients and volunteers Refers clients to appropriate staff for service Performs other duties as assigned, including but not limited to: Performs other duties and special projects as assigned Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred Able to read and understand instructions Able to work with animals, disinfectants, and cleaning supplies Able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs; stand/walk for long periods; bend, kneel, restrain animals; exposure to noise, allergens, chemicals, and potential bites/scratches Knowledge and Skills Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a variety of people Ability to work with a computer and operational software Knowledge of animal breeds, behavior, and handling Knowledge of animal health, able to identify illness, preferred Ability to safely handle animals, including those with health and behavioral challenges Excellent communication skills and ability to follow instructions Detail-oriented and able to prioritize and perform duties efficiently and effectively Committed to maintaining the Fayette Regional Humane Society's high standard of animal care and mission to foster compassion and end animal suffering.
